UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres met with the Chief Adviser of the Bangladesh Interim Government Dr. Muhammad Yunus. They met and held a brief meeting on Thursday (September 26) at 2pm local time on the sidelines of the United Nations General Session.

In the meeting Antonio Gutrerres said that the United Nations is ready to work closely with this government besides welcoming various reform initiatives taken by Dr. Muhammad Yunus. At this time Antonio Guterres congratulated Dr. Muhammad Yunus on taking over as Chief Adviser to the interim government.

An important time for the people of Bangladesh Guterres applauded Dr. Yunus for his determination and leadership.

The UN Secretary-General appreciated the close cooperation between the UN and Bangladesh, including Bangladesh's contribution to peacekeeping and reiterated the UN's readiness to support Bangladesh in the ongoing transition and reform process.

The Secretary General and Principal Adviser also discussed the Rohingya refugee crisis and climate change.
