First cold wave of the season begins in Chuadanga, temperature 9.8 degrees
The first mild cold wave of the season has begun in the southwestern district of Chuadanga. It has disrupted public life due to the bitter cold and icy winds.
The lowest temperature recorded in the district was 9.8 degrees Celsius at 9 am on Friday (December 13). At that time, the humidity of the air was 87 percent. This is the lowest temperature in Chuadanga this season. Jaminur Rahman, in-charge of the Chuadanga First Class Meteorological Observatory, confirmed the matter.
According to sources from the Chuadanga Meteorological Office, cold weather has started in Chuadanga with dense fog for the past few days. Earlier, the temperature in the district was recorded at 15 degrees Celsius on Tuesday (December 10). The next day, Wednesday (December 11), the temperature was 14 degrees Celsius. In a span of one day, on Thursday (December 12), the temperature dropped to 10.2 degrees Celsius. And today, Friday, the temperature has dropped even lower to 9.8 degrees Celsius.
On Friday morning, it was seen in different parts of the district that daily wage workers and working class people have come out despite the severe cold in the morning. However, due to this cold, they are not getting the desired work. Many are trying to beat the cold by burning straw. Although public transport was running, there was not much passenger pressure. However, the good news is that although there was thick fog at night, the sun appeared as the morning progressed.
In-charge of Chuadanga Meteorological Observatory, Jaminur Rahman said that the lowest temperature in the district was recorded at 6 am on Friday (December 13) at 10 degrees Celsius. At 9 am, the temperature dropped further to 9.8 degrees. With this, the first mild cold wave of the current season has started in Chuadanga. He also said that the temperature will continue to drop further until December 15. After that, the temperature will increase slightly from December 16. However, the fog may continue.
Meanwhile, the mild cold wave has turned the lives of the people of this region into a nightmare. Unless it is very necessary, people are not going out in the morning. They are waiting for the sun to rise. Many have come out ignoring the severe cold in the pursuit of livelihood.
Sanwar Hossain, a brick kiln worker in Chuadanga suburb, said, "Every day, we have to go to work at the brick kiln early in the morning. There, we have to work with mud and water to make bricks. It is cold, but there is nothing to do. If we don't go to work, our family will not be able to function.
Meanwhile, cold-related diseases among the elderly and children are increasing in Chuadanga during the severe winter. These patients are constantly receiving treatment at the Sadar Hospital and Upazila Health Complexes. Among them, children are the most affected. They are being admitted to the hospital with diarrhea and pneumonia.
