All MRP will be converted to e-passports within five years

From JS Bhavan: Machine Readable Passport (MRP) and e-Passport are internationally recognized travel documents. Bangladesh is the 193rd in the world and first country in South Asia to introduce risk-free e-passport. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said all the machine readable passports will be converted to e-passports within next five years.

The session chaired by Speaking Dr. Shirin  Sharmin Chowdhury, home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said on Monday (Feb. 10). Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said this in a written reply to the question of Shamsun Nahar, a member of the parliamentary seat reserved for women during the question-and-answer session tabled in the session of the Jatiyo Sangsad

The minister said that MRP and e-passport will be running simultaneously. On priority basis, e-passport has been introduced in three offices of Dhaka, Divisional Passport and Visa Office of Dhaka, Regional Passport Office of Uttara and Regional Passport Office of Jatrabari. Within six months, e-passports will be introduced in all divisional passport and visa offices and regional passport offices.
