All MRP will be converted to e-passports within five years
From JS Bhavan: Machine Readable Passport (MRP) and e-Passport are internationally recognized travel documents. Bangladesh is the 193rd in the world and first country in South Asia to introduce risk-free e-passport. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said all the machine readable passports will be converted to e-passports within next five years.
The session chaired by Speaking Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said on Monday (Feb. 10). The minister said that MRP and e-passport will be running simultaneously. On priority basis, e-passport has been introduced in three offices of Dhaka, Divisional Passport and Visa Office of Dhaka, Regional Passport Office of Uttara and Regional Passport Office of Jatrabari. Within six months, e-passports will be introduced in all divisional passport and visa offices and regional passport offices.
