Participants in the 12th Jatiya Sangsad(JS) Elections if concealed any information while submitting their nomination papers to the Returning Office will invalidate their candidature; The Election Commission (EC) has issued a circular in this regard.

This information was informed in a circular number 7 signed by the deputy secretary of the election management division of the election secretariat on Monday (November 27).

According to the EC, in the election, there is a provision to submit the nomination papers directly to the Returning Officer and Assistant Returning Officer as well as to submit the nomination papers online. Statement of potential sources (as per Form-20), Assets and Liabilities and Annual Income and Expenditure Statement (as per Form-21) should be submitted along with the nomination form filed directly or online.

Documents to be furnished along with submission of nomination paper-

  1. Candidate participating in the election must submit the latest income tax return along with TIN number and copy of proof of payment of tax.
  2. The name and number of the bank account opened for the purpose of meeting election expenses should be recorded in the prescribed space of the nomination paper.
  3. Tk. 300/- (Three Hundred) or in non-judicial stamps of the latest prescribed value or in cases where non-judicial stamps are scarce, an affidavit of same amount court fee shall have to be attached in presence of a notary public or magistrate.
  4. The information submitted in the affidavit must be self-explained. Additional papers may be attached if required to facilitate the provision of information.

If the candidate does not submit these information in the affidavit or provides any false information in the submitted affidavit or conceals the information or does not submit proper evidence in support of the information mentioned in the affidavit, his nomination paper can be cancelled.

The affidavit and other information will be open to all from the day of submission of nomination papers and this information will be published on the Election Commission website for public information. So the candidate cannot avoid responsibility after disclosure of wrong information knowingly or unknowingly.

Photocopies to be provided by candidates along with affidavit-

Affidavit, Statement of Possible Sources, Statement of Assets and Liabilities and Annual Income and Expenditure Statement, Income Tax Return and Evidence of Tax Payment must be submitted to the Returning Officer along with the nomination paper along with two additional photocopies.

For this, one original copy of the affidavit and two photocopies must be submitted. Among the three copies of the affidavit, the original copy should be kept in the office of the returning officer, one copy should be hung in the office of the returning officer and from the remaining copy, various NGOs, media, civil society or any other person can take photocopies. NGOs, media, civil society or any other person will do the photocopying themselves.

According to the announced schedule of the 12th Parliament elections, the last date for submission of nomination papers is 30 November, the scrutiny of nomination papers is from 1 to 4 December, the filing and settlement of appeals against the decision of the returning officer in the commission is from 5 to 15 December, and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is December 17. The returning officers will allot the symbols on December 18. The election campaign will continue till 8 am on January 5. And the polling will be held on January 7 (Sunday).

In this year's national parliament election, the total number of voters across the country is 11 crore 96 lakh 91 thousand 633 people. The Election Commission (EC) released the final voters list for the parliamentary elections on November 2.

According to the information provided by the EC, 6 crore 7 lakh 71 thousand 579 of the total voters are male voters while 5 crore 89 lakh 19 thousand 202 women voters. And the number of third gender voters is 852.
