A huge fire guts a restaurant building at Bailey Road in Dhaka. Until night 1:00 am death toll rose to 44 in the building of Kacchi Bhai restaurant.
Several others who were burnt are taken for treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.
On Thursday (February 29) night Health Minister Dr. Samanta Lal Sen confirmed the death toll.
The health minister said, I rushed to the hospital after receiving the news. The Prime Minister herself also asked me go there quickly.
What I saw when I came here was terrible. 10 people have died at the Burn Institute so far.
On the other hand, death of 33 people confirmed from Dhaka Medical College Hospital. One died in Central Police Line Hospital.
The minister also said that those who are still alive are in critical condition. Most of them had burnt critically. It is very sad.
Efforts are underway to save those who are alive, minister said.
The injured are admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Burn Unit. 14 people are under treatment in DMCH and 8 people in Burn Institute.
He said that everyone has been given medical treatment in proper on the instructions of the Prime Minister. The death toll is feared to rise.
The fire service's media cell informed that they received information about the fire at 9:50 pm. The first unit arrived at the scene at 9:56 a.m. Later, 12 more units rushed to the spot as the fire spread. Police, Ansar, RAB and NSI worked to control the fire.
