Process of handing over of bodies of Bailey Road fire victims begins

The bodies of those killed in the fire incident in the building of Kacchi Bhai Restaurant on Bailey Road in the capital have been under process of handing over to their relatives.

The handover process started at 5:41 am on Friday (March 1) from Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Earlier, the Dhaka district administration sought information from the relatives of the deceased for handing over the bodies from 2 o'clock on Thursday night. After the identification of the body, subject to the collection of information, the handover of the body begins.

Members of the district administration, police and fire service are involved in the process of handing over the bodies. So far the information of 16 people is with the Dhaka district administration. The police prepared a status report of the deceased at Dhaka Medical College Hospital that night. The bodies were then handed over to the relatives.

Confirming the matter, Kalabagan Police Station Sub-Inspector (ASI) Golam Hossain said that the bodies of the victims identified by the relatives of the deceased have been handed over through legal process.

At 9:50 PM on Thursday (February 29), 44 people were killed in a fire in the building of Kacchi Bhai Restaurant on Bailey Road in the capital. Several others who were burnt are undergoing treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.

Health Minister Dr. Samant Lal Sen said that 10 people have died in the Burn Institute so far. On the other hand, 33 people died in Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

He also said that the respiratory systems of most of the injured have been burnt in the fire incident. Their condition is serious. Efforts are underway to save them.
