Dhaka: Bangladesh Bank is not freezing the accounts of any organization and will not do so in the future, said Central Bank Governor Dr. Ahsan H Mansoor.

He said that a bank can seize the account of an organization out of enthusiasm, but this is not the instruction of Bangladesh Bank.

The Governor of the Central Bank said these things during an exchange of views with the journalists on the recent situation of the financial sector on Sunday (September 8) afternoon.

The governor said various steps are being taken to restore the confidence of customers. As part of this, the deposit insurance has been increased from Tk. 1 lakh to Tk. 2 lakh. As a result, 95 percent of customers' deposits will be protected, he said.

Dr. Ahsan H. Mansoor said that the task force of the banking sector will start working within the next ten days. Various organizations including World Bank, IMF, ADB will support the task force.

Regarding the small and medium industry sector, he said, we are trying to find out why many entrepreneurs in this sector are not getting loans. He also said that there is still Tk. 25 thousand crore in this sector.
