Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) elections held three years ago, who was a candidate for BNP. The court declared Shahadat Hossain the Mayor. This judgment has been announced in the case filed by this candidate seeking annulment of the election. At the same time, instructions have been given to announce the gazette within the next 10 days.
The verdict was given by the Election Tribunal and Joint District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Khairul Amin on Tuesday (October 1) at 12 noon.
Advocate Arshad Hossain Asad confirmed the matter.
Earlier, Awami League candidate Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury got more than three hundred thousand votes. Dr. Shahadat was reported missing. Dr. Shahadat later filed a case in court seeking to cancel the election. However, it could not be blocked by Rezaul's appointment as Mayor. Rezaul went into hiding when the Awami League government collapsed on August 5 after serving for more than three years. Later Divisional Commissioner Tofail Islam was appointed as Administrator. Meanwhile, this sensational verdict came.
In the statement of the case Dr. Shahadat presented several evidences alleging incredible rigging in the election. He demanded rescheduling and re-election of corporation elections. Nine people including the then Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda and the then Mayor of CCC Rezaul Karim Chowdhury were made defendants in the case.
