Dhaka: Interim government Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus said that Bangladesh will continue to support the Palestinian state and its people.

Palestinian Ambassador to Dhaka Yusuf Ramzan paid a courtesy call on the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government at the State Guest House Jamuna on Tuesday (October 1). At this time, the Chief Adviser said this.

Dr. Yunus hoped that Palestine will get the desired independent state in the meeting.

The meeting discussed issues of mutual interest, global support for a Palestinian state, the genocide in Gaza and tensions in the Middle East.

Palestinian Ambassador Yousuf Ramzan praised the Chief Adviser's speech at the United Nations, saying it was timely and cast a much-needed spotlight on the Palestinian issue.0

The Palestinian ambassador said that after receiving medical education in Bangladesh, about 60 Palestinian doctors are now serving patients in Gaza.

He said, more than two hundred Palestinian students are waiting for higher education in Bangladesh.

Addressing the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on September 27, Chief Adviser Professor Yunus urged world leaders to implement an immediate and complete ceasefire to protect the Palestinian people from atrocities those responsible for crimes against humanity in Palestine.

He said, despite global concern and condemnation, the genocide in Gaza continues.

He said that the situation in Palestine is a concern not only for Arabs or Muslims, but for the entire humanity. Palestinians are not expendable people. All those responsible for crimes against humanity against the Palestinian people must be held accountable.

The Chief Adviser said Bangladesh called for an immediate and complete ceasefire to protect the Palestinian people, especially children and women, from atrocities.

He suggested that the international community, including the United Nations, should work earnestly to implement the two-state solution as the only way to bring lasting peace to the Middle East.

A clash between Paharis and Bengalis took place due to the beating to death of a college teacher named Sohel Rana in Khagrachari. Therefore, considering the situation, section 144 has been issued at the district headquarters for an indefinite period.

Khagrachari Deputy Commissioner Md. Shahiduzzaman on Tuesday (October 1) at noon confirmed the issue of section 144.

Earlier, Sohail Rana was killed in a mob lynching in the morning. He was a teacher in Khagrachari Technical School and College. Due to this, the conflict between Pahari and Bengalis spread.

Locals said that Sohail went to jail in 2017 for raping a hill woman. Recently he was released and joined the workplace again. This morning, a Facebook post spread that a mountain woman was picked up by Bangalis in the technical area.

Local sources have confirmed that after that the Paharis came in groups and entered the school and beat Sohail to death.

Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has so far sent 71 Mutual Legal Assistance Requests (MLARs) to various countries seeking the return of laundered money. Of these, 27 MLARs have been responded to by the agency.

A four-member delegation from the European Union (EU) met with ACC officials on Tuesday (October 1). After the meeting, the Director General of the ACC Akter Hossain informed this information.

He said, from Bangladesh, money laundering is more common in America, Canada, Switzerland, Malaysia and Singapore. ACC sent 71 letters seeking information on money laundering and received only 27 responses.

The delegation of the European Union has assured maximum cooperation to the ACC in any issue including prevention of money laundering, he said, how the ACC can get cooperation to bring back the money that has been smuggled, was discussed in the meeting.

Since the interim government led by Dr. Yunus took charge, the ACC has started working very vigorously to recover the money laundered during the Sheikh Hasina government. The organization has already met with the FBI, World Bank and UNODC. 

Former Secretary of Election Commission and Ministry of Home Affairs Md. Jahangir Alam has been arrested by Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch (DB) from Gulshan.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) Muhammad Talebur Rahman of the Media Department of DMP confirmed this information on Tuesday (October 1) morning.

He said that the former secretary of the Election Commission and Ministry of Home Affairs is the master of the dummy election. DB, DMP arrested Jahangir Alam from Gulshan.
