The planning and education adviser Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud commented that although corruption has decreased somewhat in the country, extortion has not decreased.
The adviser said this at a press conference at the NEC conference room in the capital's Sher-e-bangla nagar after the second meeting of the interim government at the office of the chief adviser on Monday (October 7).
The planning advisor said that ongoing projects are being revised. So it takes time. As private sector investment is low, projects will slow down and their cash flow will not increase. Work on previous projects should be continued to increase the flow of money. Some new projects have to be undertaken. But before extending the duration of already ongoing projects, the cost is being scrutinized.
He said that instead of building big infrastructure or buying cars under the project, initiatives will be taken to increase civic amenities in city corporations and municipalities, build parks and libraries, and build reservoirs. The government will check how many cars have been bought under government projects, where they are, how they are being used. When the project is finished, why the cars can no longer be found will be verified.
He also said that the Dhaka-Rangpur highway has stalled up to Tangail. There is considerable foreign funding. Interest rates are also low. This project will be implemented. The current government is giving more priority to foreign funded projects.
Besides, he also said that the capital will be decentralized by increasing the civic facilities in city corporations and municipalities outside Dhaka.
