In Patuakhali, 50 fishermen have been sent to jail for illegal fishing during the hilsa breeding season. 20 thousand meters of net and 10 kg of hilsa were seized during the operation of a mobile court in the Lebukhali section of Payra river on Saturday (October 19) afternoon.
The operation was led by Deputy Commissioner Abu Hasnat Mohammad Arefin. Additional Deputy Commissioner Jadav Sarkar, Additional Superintendent of Police Ahmed Mainul Hasan, District Fisheries Officer Md. Kamrul Islam and other administrative officers.
After the operation, the seized nets were burned and the recovered fish were distributed to local orphanages.
According to District Fisheries Office sources, a total of 350,000 meters of nets and 1,800 kg of hilsa have been seized in Patuakhali in the last few days and 50 fishermen have been sent to jail for violating the ban.
During this campaign, the administration is taking strict steps to implement the ban and conservation of hilsa.
