The number of patients and deaths from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease dengue fever is increasing day by day. In the last 24 hours, 10 more people have died from the disease across the country. With this, the death toll this month has reached 156. So far, the highest number of deaths in a month this year was in November. Last October, 135 people died of dengue. In addition, 471 people have died of dengue this year.
This information was given in a press release on dengue sent by the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services on Tuesday (November 26) evening.
The release said that 990 people infected with dengue have been admitted to the hospital in the last 24 hours. With them, the total number of patients admitted to the hospital so far this month has reached 26,898. 30,879 people were admitted to the hospital in October. And so far this year, the total number of patients admitted to the hospital as per the government is 88,715.
The notification further said that out of the 10 people who lost their lives in the past 24 hours, three died each in Dhaka North City Corporation and Barishal division. Of the rest, two died in Dhaka South City Corporation and one each in Chattogram and Dhaka divisions.
The dengue situation has taken a terrible shape since June 2023. Last year, 321,179 patients were admitted to hospitals in the country and received treatment. On the other hand, 1,705 people have died from this mosquito-borne disease. This is the highest death record in the country's history so far.
Earlier, in 2019, 101,354 people were infected with dengue nationwide. At that time, about 300 people, including doctors and health workers, died.
Although dengue infection was not seen much during the Corona pandemic in 2020, 28,429 people were infected with dengue fever across the country in 2021. 105 people died of dengue that year.
In addition, a total of 62,382 people were hospitalized with dengue in 2022. 281 people died of the mosquito-borne disease that year.
