The gayebana Janaza of the slain lawyer Saiful Islam Alif, who was killed in the protests surrounding the denial of bail to Sanatan Jagran Mancha spokesperson Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in Chattogram, was held at Dhaka University (DU).

The Janaza was held in front of the anti-terrorism Raju statue at around 9:45 pm on Tuesday (November 26). The Janaza was organized by the Dhaka University Students Association of Lohagara-Satkania.

Dhaka University students participated in the Janaza. In addition, leaders and activists of various organizations including Inquilab Mancha, Chhatra Odhikar Parishad, Islami Chhatra Andolan, Swadhin Bangladesh Chhatra Sangsad also participated with them.

After the Janaza, the students took out a protest procession to the VC's premises. During this time, they demanded a ban on ISKCON.

Earlier, Saiful Islam Alif was killed in an attack by ISKCON supporters demanding the release of Bangladesh Sanatan Jagran Jote spokesperson Principal Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in Chattogram. The incident took place on the road in front of the Chattogram Court building on Tuesday (November 26) afternoon.

Home Ministry Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said, there may be domestic and foreign fuel in the ISKCON issue. There may be one or two groups in the country that have been banned.

The Bangladesh Foreign Ministry has said that India is spreading false information about the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das, spokesperson of Bangladesh Sanatan Jagran Mancha and former principal of Pundarik Dham in Hathazari, Chattogram.

The ministry issued a statement on Tuesday (November 26) night in the wake of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs' statement on Chinmoy Das.

The statement said that the Bangladesh government notes with great disappointment that since the arrest of Shri Chinmoy Krishna Das on specific charges, his arrest has been misinterpreted by some quarters. The Bangladesh government would like to say that such baseless statements not only distort the truth but also go against the spirit of friendship and understanding between the two neighboring countries.

Earlier, expressing concern over the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement, "We are deeply concerned about the arrest and denial of bail of the spokesperson of the Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatan Jagran Jote, Shri Chinmoy Krishna Das. This incident took place after a series of attacks on Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh."

The statement further said that while the perpetrators of this incident are at large, charges have been framed against a religious leader who had presented his just demands through peaceful protests. The statement called on the Bangladesh authorities to ensure the safety, peaceful assembly and freedom of expression of all minorities, including Hindus.

The statement said that Bangladesh firmly affirms that every Bangladeshi, irrespective of his religious identity, has the right to establish, maintain or practice his own religious practices and to express his views without hindrance. It is the responsibility of the Bangladesh government to ensure the security of all citizens, especially religious minorities. This was once again demonstrated by the peaceful celebration of Durga Puja in Bangladesh last month.

It also said that the Bangladesh government wishes to reiterate that the judiciary of the country is completely independent and it does not interfere in the functioning of the judiciary. The matter in question is currently pending in the courts.

The number of patients and deaths from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease dengue fever is increasing day by day. In the last 24 hours, 10 more people have died from the disease across the country. With this, the death toll this month has reached 156. So far, the highest number of deaths in a month this year was in November. Last October, 135 people died of dengue. In addition, 471 people have died of dengue this year.

This information was given in a press release on dengue sent by the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services on Tuesday (November 26) evening.

The release said that 990 people infected with dengue have been admitted to the hospital in the last 24 hours. With them, the total number of patients admitted to the hospital so far this month has reached 26,898. 30,879 people were admitted to the hospital in October. And so far this year, the total number of patients admitted to the hospital as per the government is 88,715.

The notification further said that out of the 10 people who lost their lives in the past 24 hours, three died each in Dhaka North City Corporation and Barishal division. Of the rest, two died in Dhaka South City Corporation and one each in Chattogram and Dhaka divisions.

The dengue situation has taken a terrible shape since June 2023. Last year, 321,179 patients were admitted to hospitals in the country and received treatment. On the other hand, 1,705 people have died from this mosquito-borne disease. This is the highest death record in the country's history so far.

Earlier, in 2019, 101,354 people were infected with dengue nationwide. At that time, about 300 people, including doctors and health workers, died.

Although dengue infection was not seen much during the Corona pandemic in 2020, 28,429 people were infected with dengue fever across the country in 2021. 105 people died of dengue that year.

In addition, a total of 62,382 people were hospitalized with dengue in 2022. 281 people died of the mosquito-borne disease that year.
