No lawyer appeared for Chinmoy Krishna Das, leader of Bangladesh Sanatan Jagran Mancha, in the bail hearing. As a result, the hearing date has been postponed by another month to January 2 in view of the state's application.
Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court Judge Saiful Islam gave this order on Tuesday (December 3). However, the accused Chinmoy Krishna Das was not produced in court on that day.
Confirming the matter, bench clerk Nesar Ahmed of the concerned court said that the state requested to postpone the bail as no lawyer for the accused was present. In view of that application, the court postponed the hearing. The hearing date of this missed case has been fixed for January 2.
Court sources said that Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Mofizul Haque Bhuiyan of the Metropolitan Court participated in the bail hearing on behalf of the state. In addition, more than a hundred lawyers, including the president and secretary of the Chattogram District Bar Association, participated in the hearing.
There was tight security in the Chattogram court area since this morning surrounding the date of Chinmoy's bail hearing. A large number of members of various law enforcement agencies were stationed in different parts of the court area.
However, Chinmoy Das was not produced in the court today. Leaders of the Bar Association and a section of general lawyers were also seen marching in the court premises in the morning.
Earlier, on November 26, the Sixth Metropolitan Magistrate of Chattogram, Kazi Shariful Islam, rejected the bail in the sedition case and ordered Chinmoy Das to be sent to jail.
After that order, people from the Sanatan community protested around the prison van in the court premises. After two and a half hours, the police dispersed the protesters by throwing sound grenades and took Chinmoy Das to jail.
