The country's law enforcement agencies have arrested seven people in connection with the attack on the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in North Agartala in India's northeastern state of Tripura. In addition, three Tripura police personnel have been suspended on charges of negligence of duty.
This information was reported by the Indian media NDTV on Tuesday (December 3).
The NDTV report said that three police sub-inspectors have been suspended in connection with the attack, vandalism and burning of the national flag at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala. In addition, a deputy SP has been removed from duty and sent to the police headquarters.
PTI quoted West Tripura Police SP Kiran Kumar as saying that the police have filed a case in the New Capital Complex police station in Agartala in this incident. The police have already started an investigation and will take action as per the law.
After yesterday's incident, security has been tightened at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala. The police official also said that members of the CRPF and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) have been deployed there.
It is worth noting that on Monday, a group of people led by a right-wing organization called 'Hindu Sangharsh Samiti' entered the premises of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala and protested and attacked. This organization is affiliated with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. At that time, the national flag of Bangladesh was pulled and torn.
Later, in a statement, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said that the incident of vandalism at the premises of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala is very unfortunate. Diplomatic and consular property should not be targeted under any circumstances.
Condemning the incident, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said that during the protest procession, some youths tried to enter the office of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission. I condemn this incident. Peaceful protests can be held, but such behavior is not acceptable.
