Present Mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) Dr Selina Hayat Ivy has again got the nomination of Awami League in the upcoming election for the post of Mayor. Dr Ivy who is also the senior vice-president of district Awami League will contest with the boat symbol.
After the meeting of the Nomination Board held on Friday (December 3) evening a source disclosed the information.
The first Narayanganj city election was held in 2011. In that election, Dr Selina Hayat Ivy as an independent defeated Awami League leader Shamim Osman by a huge margin. Selina Hayat Ivy later, for the first time in the 2016 election contested for Mayor post with boat symbol and defeated her opponent BNP candidate Shakhawat Hossain Khan by a margin of 80,000 votes. It may be noted that Dr Ivy is the daughter of late Awami League leader and chairman of Narayanganj pourashava Ali Ahmed Chunka.
