Tahsin Bahar Suchana has been elected the new mayor of Cumilla defeating Monirul Haque Sakku. Tahseen Bahar Suchana is the daughter of A.K.M. Baharuddin Bahar, the four-time influential MP of Cumilla-6.
On Saturday (March 9) around 7:30 pm, she was declared unofficially elected after announcing the results of the mayoral by-election.
Returning Officer Farhad Hossain announced the by-election results at Cumilla Zilla School Auditorium.
In the announced results of 105 centers in the mayoral by-election Dr. Tahsin Bahar Suchana has got 48 thousand 890 votes with Bus symbol. Her closest rival, former mayor with Table clock symbol Monirul Haque Sakku got 26 thousand 897 votes. Besides, Nizam Uddin Qaiser of horse symbol got 13 thousand 155 votes and Noor ur Rahman Mahmud Tanim of elephant symbol got 5 thousand 173 votes. Voting was held in EVM.
