EU delegation is coming to Dhaka to see the progress of the labor sector

A European Union (EU) delegation is coming to Bangladesh to review the progress of the implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) for the development of the labor sector. The team is scheduled to reach Dhaka on November 12. It will be led by Paula Pampaloni, EU Deputy Managing Director for Asia and the Pacific.

The delegation will meet with the Foreign Secretary, Commerce Secretary and Labor Secretary on November 15. The meeting is expected to discuss various issues including the situation after the amendment of the labor law, abolition of child labor and elimination of all forms of violence against workers. The EU delegation is meeting on the situation in the labor sector at a time when workers in the garment industry are protesting to demand a minimum wage.

In this regard, the EU embassy said, this visit is very important for the market advantage that Bangladesh gets in the EU. The visit was supposed to take place in the middle of the year, but it was decided to be held on November 15 after several delays.
