Dhaka: France's national elections are ahead. The election campaign is going on in the country ahead of this election. In such a situation, the current President Emmanuel Macron has expressed the fear of a ‘civil war’ in the country.

On Monday (June 28), Macron gave an interview to a French podcast called Generation Do It Yourself. News Reuters.

According to Reuters, the current president of the country, Emmanuel Macron, expressed fear in an interview that the political party of the right-wing National Rally (RN) party and the left-wing New Popular Front could start a "civil war" in France. The election campaign that the RN is running suggests that the party is relying on a 'divide' policy to tackle crime and immigration.

He said, they want to solve state problems on the basis of caste and religion. By doing this, they are leading the country towards 'civil war'.

At the time, he criticized La France Insomize (LFI), a political party that is part of the country's New Popular Front alliance, saying, "This party is only prioritizing their own community groups." This alienates a large population of France. Because of this, the country's groups that are being kept apart can be tied to civil war.

Meanwhile, in response to Macron's comments, Jordan Bardella, president of RN, said, "Macron should not have made such comments as the president of a country."

On the other hand, LFI leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon condemned Macron's comments, saying that Macron's own policies could lead to "civil war" in the country as is happening in New Caledonia.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said in a letter to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that India should not have any talks with Bangladesh on Teesta and Ganges water sharing without the participation of the state.

In a letter sent to Modi, Mamata strongly opposed giving the water of Teesta and Ganges to Bangladesh. She even warned of India-wide agitation against the unilateral decision.

In the letter, Mamata Banerjee also said, 'It is not possible to share Teesta water with Bangladesh because people in the northern part of West Bengal need water for irrigation and consumption.'

She said, ``The flow of water in Teesta has decreased over the years. It is thought that if water is shared with Bangladesh, lakhs of people in North Bengal will be severely affected due to insufficient irrigation water.

Apart from this, Teesta water is also needed to meet the drinking water requirements of the people of North Bengal. Therefore, it is not possible to share Teesta water with Bangladesh', Mamata mentioned in the letter.

In the letter, Mamata writes, 'I am writing this letter in view of the recent visit of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh to Delhi. It seems that Teesta and Ganges water sharing was discussed during this important visit. Such a one-sided discussion without the advice and opinion of the state government is not acceptable or desirable.

Chief Minister Mamata also wrote, 'We have close relations with Bangladesh geographically, culturally and economically. I love and respect the people of Bangladesh and always wish them well. West Bengal has cooperated with Bangladesh on various issues in the past. Bangladesh-India Chit Mahal exchange agreement, Indo-Bangladesh railway line apart from bus services are milestones for economic development in the region.

Mamata Banerjee wrote about the water sharing agreement, 'Water is very precious and the lifeline of people. We cannot compromise on such a sensitive issue, which has serious and adverse impact on the people. The people of West Bengal will suffer the most from the impact of such an agreement. I understand the Government of India is in the process of renewing the Indo-Bangladesh Farakka Agreement which will expire in 2026. It is an agreement that outlines the principles of water sharing between Bangladesh and India.'

Later, in that letter, Mamata wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 'You know, river water has a huge impact on the livelihood of the people of West Bengal. The diversion of water at the Farakka barrage helps maintain the navigability of Kolkata's port.

"I would like to bring to your notice that the morphology of rivers in eastern India and Bangladesh has changed, depriving West Bengal and negatively affecting the availability of water in the state."

During Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's recent visit to India, MoUs were signed on several important issues between the two countries and some announcements were also made. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee did not receive a call even though issues related to West Bengal including Teesta-Ganges water sharing were discussed there. Mamata has sent a letter to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in strong language to protest about this matter.

After the talks, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that a technical team would soon be sent to Bangladesh for the conservation and management of Teesta water in Bangladesh, and talks would begin on renewing the 1996 Ganges Water Sharing Agreement, which expires in 2026.

Italy is interested in selling various types of weapons and military equipment including fighter jets, satellites, patrol ships to Bangladesh. The European country wants to sign a defense agreement with Bangladesh to facilitate the sale of arms.

The matter may gain importance in the foreign secretary level talks of the two countries to be held in Dhaka on Monday (June 24).

Officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the second political consultation meeting of the two countries will be held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday afternoon. The meeting will be led by Foreign Secretary Masood Bin Momen on behalf of Bangladesh and Riccardo Guariglia, Secretary General of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on behalf of Italy.

Last month, Italian Ambassador Antonio Alessandro paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban. At that time, he told the Prime Minister that his country is interested in the transfer of technology including the sale of arms for the modernization of the armed forces of Bangladesh. Italy is also preparing to give a second satellite to Bangladesh.

According to diplomatic sources, the agenda of the meeting of the foreign secretaries of the two countries to be held in Dhaka on Monday includes issues such as political cooperation, trade, investment, defense, immigration, satellite technology, information and communication technology, cyber security.

When asked about defense cooperation, a related senior official said that Italy has offered to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the defense sector several years ago. The country is quite interested in this matter. In recent years, Italy has been giving special importance to the issue of defense in cooperation with Bangladesh.

According to various sources, Italy is interested in selling various types of equipment to the Bangladesh Air Force and Navy. Thales Alenia, a joint venture of France's Thales and Italy's Leonardo, has shown interest in selling the second satellite to Bangladesh. In addition to aircraft, security and aerospace maker Leonardo is talking about aircraft maintenance and technology transfer. And Italian shipbuilders have offered to sell coastal patrol vessels as well as transfer technology.

However, several officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that no new project is being taken up due to financial reasons including the crisis of reserves. In such a situation, there will be no final decision about Italy's armament at the moment. And the defense MoU will not be signed now as several procedural issues are pending.

Officials in Dhaka said that the issue of safe and orderly migration of workers from Bangladesh will be given importance in this meeting between the two countries. Italy drafted a memorandum of understanding to Bangladesh in February this year to facilitate safe migration between the two countries. This draft will be discussed.

It is known that the Rohingya crisis will be discussed due to the deteriorating internal situation in Myanmar in the discussion between the foreign secretaries of the two countries. A part of the Italian delegation will visit Cox's Bazar after the meeting.
