Adani has reduced power supply to Bangladesh by 60 percent
India's Adani Group has reduced power supply to Bangladesh due to non-payment of outstanding bills. Adani has reduced power supply by another 200 megawatts from Friday night due to non-payment of more than 800 million dollars in arrears from Bangladesh.
This information was published in a report by the news agency Reuters on Friday (November 8).
The report said that India's Adani Group is trying to collect 800 million dollars or Tk. 10,000 crore owed by Bangladesh. Due to this, power supply has been reduced by another 200 megawatts since last Friday night. Adani reduced power supply to Bangladesh by 50 percent at the end of last month. Now they have reduced it by another 10 percent.
Earlier, in early August, the supply to Dhaka from the 1,600 megawatt Godda plant in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand was reduced from 1,400 to 1,500 megawatts to 700 to 750 megawatts. According to an official of the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), the supply was further reduced to about 520 megawatts on Thursday.
Last week, the Power Development Board (PDB) paid them one crore dollars. Even then, Adani officials told BPDB that power generation had decreased due to the coal shortage in Jharkhand.
The BPDB said that Adani had reduced power supply even though the issue of payment of dues was resolved by November 7.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh's power and energy adviser Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan told Reuters, "We are paying the dues gradually. If someone stops the supply, we will take alternative measures. We will not let any power supplier hold us hostage."
