Biden's special envoy arrives in Dhaka
Dhaka: A special envoy of Biden has arrived in Dhaka on a 4-day official visit to Bangladesh to support sustainable economic growth, stability, and meaningful and quality jobs. The delegation is led by Special Envoy for International Labor Affairs Kelly M. Fay Rodriguez and Deputy Under Secretary of Labor Thea Lee.
They arrived in Dhaka on Friday (November 22) morning and met with the labor organization Solidarity Center to discuss the working conditions and details of workers. They will meet with the International Labor Organization ILO in the afternoon. They are also scheduled to meet with all government parties.
It is learned that the delegation will meet with officials of the interim government, private sector garment manufacturers, and labor union stakeholders. The delegation will discuss with representatives of American companies investing in the ready-made garment sector and global labor experts how to best support Bangladesh's economy, democracy and workers.
The visit underscores the United States' commitment to promoting economic development, internationally recognized labor standards, as well as sustainable growth and broadly shared prosperity.
