Investigative officials said he was impeached and removed from office on December 3 for imposing martial law.

The Seoul Western District Court issued the arrest warrant, the Chief Corruption Investigation Officer (CIO) said. The court had authorized Yoon's arrest for further investigation.

This is the first arrest warrant for a sitting South Korean president, according to local media reports. The CIO did not comment on the court's arrest warrant. The court also declined to comment on the matter.

It is also unclear how the arrest warrant against President Yoon will be enforced. South Korea's presidential security service said in a statement on Tuesday that the arrest warrant will be implemented in accordance with due process.

The CIO said the court also gave permission to search President Yoon's residence. Although police had previously failed to search his residence, especially the president's security service, it did not help.

Yoon Suk-yeol could face a criminal charge of sedition.

Meanwhile, Han Dak-su, the acting leader of South Korea's ruling People Power Party, told Yonhap News Agency on Tuesday that it would be wrong to detain a president in this way.
