Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed to take action against the culprits through investigation if any abnormality is found in the death of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) teacher Professor Dr. Selim Hossain.
Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader said this in a statement sent to the media on Saturday (December 4).
On the afternoon of November 30, Dr. Selim Hossain, a professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in Kuwait, died. After that, it was alleged that the deceased had suffered a heart attack due to humiliation and mental torture by some students. A few CCTV footage related to the incident spread through social media.
As seen in the footage, a few students on the campus had been misbehaving with Prof. Dr. Selim Hossain. They later followed Dr. Selim into a private room in the Electrical Engineering building. After about 30 minutes they got out of there. Later, Professor Selim got out of there and returned home.
The teacher's wife said Selim went to the bathroom after returning home. When it was too late to get out, she broke down the door and went in to find her husband lying unconscious. He was rescued from there and taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
The university teachers' association held a protest rally on Thursday demanding the death of the teacher due to some students’ alleged manhandling. According to the Teachers' Association, Professor Selim died due to humiliation and mental torture by some unruly students.
