Six accounts of SUST agitators closed
Six accounts that provided financial support to the agitators of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) have been closed. Agitating students have complained that all accounts have been closed since Monday (January 24).
Alumni of the university send donations through a total of 6 accounts of Bank, Bikash, Nagad and Rocket. With this money, the food and related expenses of about 3 thousand agitating students are covered.
Such information was also reported from the Facebook page of the protesters. It is said that for the information of all, the brothers and sisters who were sending financial aid for food and treatment of the protesters have been stopped. From now on, no one will send money to these accounts.
According to the protesters, the alumni of SUST provided financial assistance for their food and other expenses. The money would come through an Eastern Bank Ltd account, three bKash accounts, a Rocket and a Nagad account.
Two students, who did not want to be named, said that a couple of lakhs of money used to come into the accounts every day. However, from today we are not able to make any transaction in these accounts. All accounts, including bank accounts, have been closed. We were not notified of the account closure. I contacted the local bKash office but got no response.
Nasim Hossain, a Sylhet distributor of bKash, said, "I don't know anything about closing the account." However, there are some rules of transaction in bKash. A maximum of Tk. 25,000 can be transacted in a personal account and up to a maximum of Tk. 5 lakh can be transacted from a business account. If it exceeds this, the account may be closed.
It may be mentioned here that on the night of January 13 the students started agitation for alleged misconduct of Begum Sirajunnesa Chowdhury Hall Provost Jafrin Ahmed. Hundreds of female students in the hall started a movement demanding three points including her resignation. The BCL attacked the female students of the hall on Saturday evening. On Sunday, the students seized the Vice-Chancellor. Upon receiving the news, the police started a baton charge, fired rubber bullets and released the VC. Fifty female students were injured. Since then, the students have been agitating for the resignation of the Vice-Chancellor.
