Saying that the problem will be resolved, the press secretary of the interim government's chief adviser, Shafiqul Alam, has urged the students who have taken up the protest at the government's Titumir College to remain calm.

He made this appeal at a briefing of the chief adviser's press wing at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Monday (November 18) evening on current affairs.

Shafiqul Alam said, "I would like to tell the brothers and sisters of Titumir College to remain calm. Talks are underway regarding the 7 colleges. We hope that an immediate solution will be found."

Meanwhile, students have blocked the road in front of the campus again after the decision to form a commission to convert Titumir College into a university was not announced. This has stopped traffic in the area.

The students blocked the road after 6 pm on Monday (November 18).

Earlier, they protested by blocking the railway and road in the capital's Mohakhali area from 11 am to 4 pm. This stopped traffic from both sides.

During the program, the students announced that they would not return to the college unless the relevant officials of the Ministry of Education gave specific assurances. Then, in the afternoon, the ministry proposed a meeting with the student delegation. In response, a delegation of 12 students from Titumir went to the secretariat around 3 pm. 

The representatives of the protesting students have announced to continue the movement on Tuesday as a press release was not published despite the formation of a committee to convert Titumir College into a university.

After discussions with the government representative at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday (November 18) night, the coordinators of the movement came out and spoke to journalists to announce that the program would continue.

Titumir College coordinator Aminul Islam announced the program and said that after discussions with the adviser of the Ministry of Education, a press release was not issued on the phone of any one person. We asked them, are you plotting something? We have come to talk to 14 government representatives on behalf of 12,000 students. Do you want us to return to the campus as accused? We have become like accused for what you have done. Why did we come to discuss? We have to answer to the students for this. So what you (government) have done to us is very shameful. We did not expect this from you. The students are angry with the behavior of those concerned. So there is no other way to reach the students except through our movement. We will continue the movement until a reasonable solution is found.

Announcing the program on Tuesday, he said, all exam classes of Titumir College will be closed for an indefinite period from tomorrow. Our ongoing program, the Barasat to Mohakhali program, will continue from 11 am to 4 pm.

'The conspiracy has not stopped yet. Conspiracies are still being made for the political rehabilitation of the Awami League in various national and international arenas.'

This was stated by Asif Mahmud, Local Government and Youth and Sports Adviser, at a discussion program titled 'New Eyes on Mass Uprising and Future Bangladesh' organized by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement JU branch at the Selim Al Din Mukta Mancha of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Monday (November 18) evening.

Adviser Asif Mahmud said, we are trying to fulfill our responsibility. We have not been successful in most cases. We have been given the responsibility at a time when Bangladesh was in a state of devastation. We have taken and are taking many initiatives for the treatment and rehabilitation of those martyred and injured in the mass uprising. More than a hundred students have been shot in the eyes during the movement. Of these, about 50 people have successfully removed the splinter from their eyes. Those injured in the movement from July 18 to August 5 were not treated. At that time, many government medical colleges were also told not to give them treatment. Many people then received treatment in private hospitals. Many of them sold their land there and paid for their treatment.

He also said, the conspiracy has not stopped yet. Conspiracies are still being hatched for the political rehabilitation of the Awami League at various national and international levels. Various conspiracies are being hatched to bring the Awami League back by making it participate in the elections by talking about democracy. When we, the government, talk about banning the Awami League, many of the political parties are trying to block their speeches and words. Talking about democracy, they are trying to put pressure from various embassies that the Awami League cannot be banned or kept away from the elections.

He also said, a German journalist asked me, we hear that the Awami League will be banned. Is that a threat to democracy or not? I said, you yourself banned the fascist Nazi Party in 1945. And the Nazi Party is still banned. From there, one should understand what the fate of the Bangladesh Awami League should be.

Stating that the government is working to keep the country's economy running, Asif Mahmud also said, "In addition to treating the injured, keeping the country's economy running was one of our first priorities. Bangladesh has a debt of about Tk. 18 lakh crore. Lakhs and lakhs of crore taka have been laundered out of the country. In such a situation, we have to work to keep the country's economy running and control the rise in prices so that we do not go towards bankruptcy."

Earlier, the program began with a minute of silence in memory of the martyrs of the July-August mass uprising, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan. At the beginning of the program, students expressed their experiences of the July Uprising and presented various reform proposals, and a documentary made in the context of the movement at Jahangirnagar University in July-August against discrimination was screened. A revolutionary cultural evening was held at the end of the program.

The program was attended by special guests, including Professor Shamima Sultana Lucky, President of the Bangla Department of Jahangirnagar University, Professor Md. Lutful Elahi, Professor of the History Department, and Professor Mohammad Jamal Uddin Runu, President of the Environmental Science Department. Also speakers were the university's Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, Pro- Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Sohel Ahmed, Pro- Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor M Mahfuzur Rahman and Proctor AKM Rashidul Alam.

The Public Service Commission (PSC) has cancelled the Viva-Voce exam of 3,930 candidates from the 44th BCS. The Viva exam of the remaining 11,732 candidates will be announced soon.

The Public Service Commission gave this information in a press release on Monday (November 18).

In the notification, the PSC said that out of the 11,732 candidates who passed the written exam of the 44th BCS, the Viva exam of 3,930 candidates was held till July 18. The Viva exam was postponed on August 25. Later, the then commission resigned on October 8. In order to maintain the parity in the Viva exam, it has been decided to cancel the partial Viva exam of 3,930 candidates of the 44th BCS-2021 taken by the previous commission and take the Viva exam of all the candidates who passed the written exam, that is, 11,732 candidates.

The notification said that the next date of the Viva exam will be announced as soon as possible.
