Meanwhile, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Hasan Mahmud, during his visit to India earlier this month, requested India to lift the ban on exports of some essential commodities, including onions, to Bangladesh to stabilize their prices in the local market ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.

Bangladesh foreign minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud during the meetings with his counterpart Dr. S. Jaishankar and Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal requested to export those products to Bangladesh.

Earlier in December last year, India imposed a ban on onion exports to boost domestic supply and control price hikes of the commodity.
