If there was no cantonment in Cox's Bazar, the area would have been occupied by Myanmar's Arakan Army, said the ruling Awami League Member of Parliament Saimum Sarwar.

This Member of Parliament from Cox's Bazar-3 made this comment while participating in the general discussion on the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 in the National Parliament on Sunday (June 23) night. He is also the Whip of Parliament.

This Member of Parliament from Cox's Bazar-3 Constituency (Cox's Bazar Sadar, Ramu and Eidgaon Upazilas) on the border of Myanmar said, "Myanmar's Arakan Army is fighting an armed struggle. Their location is just two kilometers from my constituency. Cox's Bazar would have been unsafe today if the Prime Minister had not given the cantonment. In so many days they would have occupied it. The Prime Minister has already given Tk. 20 thousand crores for the cantonment which has saved us.'

It should be noted that Myanmar's armed group Arakan Army is fighting to overthrow the country's junta government. They have taken control of most of Rakhine State.

Demanding the repatriation of the Rohingyas, Saimum Sarwar also said in the parliament today that a regional security council should be formed with Bangladesh, India, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives and Sri Lanka. Then Bangladesh's security will increase, India's security will increase.
