Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Forces have been given the responsibility of controlling traffic and police stations in the country including Dhaka.
Rubel Hossain, media officer and assistant director of the force's headquarters, confirmed this information on Tuesday (August 6).
Ansar has also been given the responsibility of security at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
As soon as the news of Sheikh Hasina's resignation and departure spread on Monday (August 5), the police left all security duties and faced a crisis with their lives. After 3 pm, the miscreants attacked the police station. When the police stationed at the police station were helpless to save lives, the senior police officers could not be traced. Starting from the police headquarters and often every police station was attacked from afternoon to late night.
It has been found that out of the 51 police stations of the capital; all but 4 police stations have been more or less affected. The policemen stationed at the police station fired indiscriminately to prevent the attack and to save their own lives. Casualties have also increased.
According to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) sources, messages started coming one after another at the DMP headquarters from Monday (August 5) afternoon. But the police could not provide security in any police station. Most of the police officers' mobile phones were found unlocked but none responded.
Going to the Mohammadpur police station in the capital, it is seen that every car inside the compound, starting from the road in front of the police station, has been vandalized and destroyed by fire.
