Two accused in Abu Sayed murder case arrested
Police ASI Syed Amir Ali and Constable Sujan Chandra Roy have been arrested by Rangpur Metropolitan Police on charge of killing one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement Abu Sayed, a student of English department of Begum Rokeya University (BRUR), They have been handed over to PBI.
PBI Police Superintendent Md. Zakir Hossain confirmed the matter on Monday (September 9) evening.
Confirming the matter, the PBI Superintendent of Police said that these two members were under surveillance in the police line. Today they were handed over to us by the Metropolitan Police.
In Abu Sayed's murder case, his elder brother Ramzan Ali filed a murder case at Metropolitan Tajhat Police Station on August 18. Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, former Deputy Inspector General of Rangpur Range (DIG) Abdul Baten, Rangpur have been accused. Former Commissioner of Metropolitan Police Md. Moniruzzaman, DC Crime Abu Maruf Hossain, policemen Syed Ameer Ali, Sujan Chandra Roy and 17 others. Apart from this, 30 to 35 people have been named as accused.
Earlier, these two policemen ASI Syed Amir Ali and Constable Sujan Chandra Roy were dismissed on August 3.
Abu Sayed's elder brother Ramzan Ali, as the plaintiff, stated in the statement of the case that Abu Sayed was one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement in Rangpur demanding quota reform. On July 16, Abu Sayed was unarmed and alone. He was not a threat to the police at the scene. Nevertheless, he was brutally shot with a shotgun. When Abu Sayed fell down and tried to stand up, the accused shot him with premeditated action.
It is also mentioned that at around 2 o'clock on the day of the incident, bricks started being thrown at the students under the leadership of Pomel Barua, president of the branch Chhatra League from inside Begum Rokeya University. Abu Sayed did not back down and went forward with his hands stretched out to reach his chest. In front of the police, at this time, Rafiul Hasan, an officer of the proctor's office, came wearing a helmet and ordered police to shoot Abu Sayed. The other two accused, Moshiur Rahman and Asaduzzaman Mandal, two teachers of the University, are said to have incited the police to shoot. The video of the unarmed Abu Sayed being shot by the police caused widespread reactions across the country.
In this regard, Abu Sayed's elder brother Ramzan Ali, the plaintiff in the case, said, "My brother was shot dead." I filed a case to get justice. We want a fair investigation. Those who are criminals should be brought under the law and be given punishment.
