Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md. Nahid Islam has commented that it is a political decision, not a legal one whether Md. Sahabuddin will remain president or not.

The adviser said this during a briefing for journalists at the Secretariat on Wednesday (October 23) afternoon.

In response to a question from journalists, the information adviser said that Md. Sahabuddin will not remain as President if the people do not want him.

Appealing to the protesters to be patient, Advisor Nahid Islam said, there is no need for any kind of protest or movement at Bangabhaban or anywhere else. We have received the message from the people and are discussing it. A decision on this issue will have to be made through discussions. Therefore, everyone will be urged to remain calm and aware.

He said, the government was formed after August 5 with the President as it is. Whether the President will remain or not, it is not a legal decision, it is a political decision. Discussions are underway with political parties. A decision will be made. If the people do not want him, there will be no President.

Nahid also claimed that the fallen fascist forces are raising their heads and are marching with weapons. He said, be careful against the fascist forces.

Regarding the ultimatum given by the anti-discrimination student movement on the issue of the President's resignation, this adviser said, the students have given the ultimatum. Discussions are underway. A rational decision may come. We are taking our time. 

President Md. Shahabuddin's resignation has not been decided yet, said Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the interim government's chief adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

On Wednesday (October 23), in response to a question about the resignation of the President, the press secretary said, so far we can say that no decision has been made in this regard.

Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said, "So far we can say, no decision has been made in this regard. If there is a decision on the resignation of the President or any other issue, you will know."

The press secretary said, there has been no discussion between the Chief Adviser and the BNP regarding the resignation of the President. This is a routine discussion. We are holding discussions with various partners of the government in phases. These discussions will continue.

Regarding the protest over the resignation of the President, he said, we have asked them (protesters) to leave there. Security has been strengthened there.

Asked whether Sheikh Hasina has resigned from the post of Prime Minister or not. Recently, there has been a huge reaction to a statement made by President Md. Shahabuddin. In this situation, leaders and activists of several organizations have been standing in front of Bangabhaban since Tuesday afternoon demanding the resignation of the President.

In addition, the anti-discrimination student movement also protested at the Central Shaheed Minar today. In this situation, law adviser Asif Nazrul, information advisor Nahid Islam and IGP Md. Mainul Islam met Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed. Apart from them, RAB DG AKM Shahidur Rahman and DMP Commissioner Md. Mainul Hasan were present at the meeting.

Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fell amid the nationwide quota movement. However, a massacre was carried out to prevent the fall of the government by suppressing the movement. When the movement took a terrible turn at the cost of many lives, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was forced to flee the country.

The UN fact-finding team is in Dhaka investigating the murders that took place during the mass uprising movement for two long months (July and August). The team is working on the fact-finding by conducting a silent investigation. Even though more than a month has passed, the team has not yet completed its work.

The concerned people said that it may take a long time to complete the investigation. They also believe that even after the team's fact-finding is complete, more teams may come later.

In response to a question about how many investigation teams are currently working in the country, he said that we do not know. We, who are sitting in the UN Coordination Office, have no contact with any of us.

In response to a question about whether another team can come again after the work of the current fact-finding team is over, he said that there are many layers of information here. The government is saying one information. The coordinators are saying another information. This will have to be understood after verifying and sorting this information. If you have seen other investigations in the world, you will see that nothing is completed in one mission. All the missions have Volume-1, Volume-2 like this. So it depends on their work. If they can complete the work, then it will be completed in one mission. And if they cannot complete the work, and they receive more complaints than they had anticipated, then they may have to conduct more missions. There is no specific word on when the investigation may be completed. They said, you submit complaints to this address, submit information. Has this information given to them reached our remotest areas, or is it going so far? Is it as easy for a person to submit a complaint or information sitting in Dhaka, as it is in a remote area or district town? Everything depends on the collection of information.

It is known about the scope of work of the UN team that they will investigate human rights violations from July 1 to August 15. They will review the root causes of the incidents and make recommendations on what long-term steps can be taken to ensure justice and accountability.

Earlier, the UN team began its investigation into the human rights violations during the student-public movement on Tuesday (September 17). On that day, a three-member delegation met with Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Towhid Hossain. Through this, the delegation's activities began.

When asked about this at the time, Foreign Affairs Advisor Towhid Hossain told reporters that a meeting had been held with the UN investigation team. We want them to investigate impartially.

At that time, sources said that the fact-finding team is responsible for uncovering the truth, identifying responsibilities; analyzing the root causes of human rights violations and making specific recommendations for Bangladesh to prevent past human rights violations and their recurrence. The investigation team was supposed to interview affected persons, law enforcement officials, medical professionals and eyewitnesses of the incident for a month. After conducting on-site examinations and analyzing data, the UN Human Rights Office was informed that a detailed human rights report would be published with the main findings, conclusions and recommendations of the investigation.

Dhaka: Cyclone 'Dana', which formed in the Bay of Bengal, has now intensified into a depression from a clear low pressure. It is located about 650 km southeast of Khepu-para in Patuakhali district. The wind speed at the center is 55 km per hour.

As per the forecast, the depression is likely to move northwestwards in the next 2 days. The sea surface water temperature at the current depression in the Bay of Bengal is around 30 degrees Celsius, which is creating a favorable environment for the cyclone to increase in strength.

As the depression moves north and northwestwards, the water temperature will also increase further. As a result, the strength of the depression may continuously increase in the next 3 days and it may turn into a deep depression.

According to the current forecast, Cyclone Dana is likely to hit the coastal areas between Puri in Odisha, India, Sagar Island in West Bengal and Noakhali district in Bangladesh. It is likely to make landfall between 12 noon on 24th October and 12 noon on 25th October.

The cyclone is likely to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm while at sea and make landfall. The maximum wind speed at the time of impact is likely to be 110 to 120 kmph, which is likely to increase to 130 kmph with gusts.
