Information Adviser Nahid Islam said that propaganda is being spread about Bangladesh and the government.

He said this after a meeting with the television owners' organization ATCO at the Secretariat on Tuesday (November 12).

Adviser Nahid said that propaganda is being spread about the coup and the government in various media outlets in neighboring countries. Everyone, including the media, must work together to counter this propaganda and highlight the real truth.

He said that other laws like the Cyber Security Act will also be reviewed to ensure media freedom. The owners have been urged to settle their arrears of salary and allowances on time. If there is any mistake, the Secretariat will re-evaluate the cases of those whose cards have been cancelled.

Calling for a wage relationship with farmers, Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhtar said, farmers will not have an independent entity if they go into contract farming. Contract farms are not related to farmers, big companies are working by destroying agriculture. We need to see how much benefit farmers are getting from this.

She said these things in her speech as the chief guest at a roundtable discussion titled 'Agricultural Workers of Bangladesh: Crisis and Solutions' at Hotel Omni International in the capital on Tuesday (November 12) morning.

The Fisheries and Livestock Adviser said that the survival of workers is not only related to wages. Farmers are not getting fair prices for their crops, and when the price of rice increases, various problems arise, in which case food items often have to be imported. If farmers procure food at good prices with subsidies, they will no longer have to import it, but we are not doing that.

He said, tobacco farming is developing like indigo farming in the country. Many farmers are forced to abandon food crops and turn to tobacco farming - which is very terrible. The lives of female workers are at high risk in tobacco farming, and in many cases, pregnant women involved in this profession are losing their children.

The adviser said, we need to think about the planned loss of importance of agriculture in GDP. Development does not mean that the importance of agriculture in GDP will decrease and other sectors will increase - he called for more emphasis on this issue. He also said, the green revolution in agriculture has turned into a gray revolution. Due to the use of fertilizers and pesticides in this sector, various non-communicable diseases including cancer are increasing due to the use of pesticides - everyone needs to be more aware of this.

The speakers called for prioritizing fair wages, social protection, and equal opportunities for the development of Bangladesh's agricultural workers, especially women, who are often invisible in policy frameworks. They highlighted the problems of agricultural workers in the country, wage disparities, and the realization of fair rights. They spoke about the risks to crop production due to fair prices for agricultural products and transportation shortages.

Al-Azhar University's Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb has announced a fully-funded scholarship for Bangladeshi students.

On Tuesday (November 12) morning, Professor Md. Yunus met with the head of the world's most prestigious Islamic religious institution of Egypt at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.

Dr. Yunus was invited by Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb to deliver a lecture at the thousand-year-old institution of Egypt, Al-Azhar University. He also said that Al-Azhar University will announce a fully-funded scholarship for Bangladeshi students.

The Grand Imam said, "We are optimistic about the future of Bangladesh under your leadership. You are a wise man. After the revolution, Bangladesh will reach new heights. I salute you for working with wisdom."

Professor Yunus thanked the Grand Imam for inviting him. He invited the Grand Imam to personally visit Bangladesh after the mass uprising.

In the meeting, the Chief Adviser spoke about the mass uprising and the reform initiatives taken by the interim government.

The Grand Imam expressed his hope that the reform process in Bangladesh would be successful. He praised Professor Yunus' leadership, his social service, the pioneering role of Grameen Bank as a microfinance institution, and his lifelong efforts to combat poverty.

Professor Yunus expressed his gratitude to Al-Azhar University and presented 'The Art of Triumph', a collection of colorful and diverse graffiti paintings painted by students on the walls of the capital Dhaka during the anti-discrimination student movement in Bangladesh in July-August.

The Grand Imam praised the artistic skills of the students of Bangladesh. He also praised the merits of Bangladeshi students studying at Al-Azhar University to the Chief Adviser.

The High Court has directed to take effective steps across the country, including the capital Dhaka, to control dengue. The local government secretary, health secretary, and the two city corporations of Dhaka have been asked to implement the instructions and submit a report to the court within 30 days.

A High Court bench comprising Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Mubina Asaf gave the order on Tuesday (November 12).

The court also ordered the formation of a high-powered committee to adopt a long-term plan to control dengue. The committee has been asked to include experts. In addition, the court has issued a rule asking why the failure of the government's concerned authorities to control dengue should not be declared illegal.
