Remittances have saved the country's economy: Social Welfare Adviser
Dhaka: Sharmin S Murshid, Adviser to the Ministry of Social Welfare and Women and Child Affairs, has said that remittances sent by migrants have saved the country's economy.
She said this while delivering a keynote speech at a seminar titled 'Voices of Resilience: Empowering Bangladesh Migrant Workers' at the Bishwa Sahitya Kendra in the capital on Saturday (November 9).
She also said that remittances sent by migrants have saved the country's economy, we need to think about their protection. We want to work with everyone with new enthusiasm to enrich the country in building a new Bangladesh.
The Social Welfare Adviser said that the autocratic regime will not be allowed to continue after August 5. After the fall of the autocratic government, the interim government led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus made it possible to release the migrants after taking office. Such an achievement sends a message to the migrants that the Bangladesh government is on their side.
Sharmin S Murshid said that women's development involves the work of the Ministry of Social Welfare and Women and Child Affairs. For this, policies should be adopted through a planned way for the development of migrant women workers, and a place should be designated for their overall support at the old airport to get rid of harassment while going abroad, then the interests of women will be protected.
She said that the government had developed a business administration system in the governance system so far. Those who have done brokerage in civil society by becoming citizens have only arranged their own sugarcane by getting involved with the government. This is not democracy; this is an immoral democracy they created. This cannot be allowed to continue.
The speakers at the event emphasized the government's responsibility to protect the rights of migrant workers and the implementation of relevant policies. The need to take necessary steps to address various challenges related to migration, provide legal assistance, develop the rehabilitation system and ensure safety at work was highlighted.
