Two brothers of Abu Sayeed, martyred in the anti-discrimination student movement, have quit their jobs of Bashundhara Group.

Abu Sayeed's brother Abu Hossain confirmed the matter to the media on Wednesday (November 13) night.

Earlier, on Tuesday, the two sent letters to the concerned authorities informing them of their resignation from their jobs by e-mail and post, citing personal reasons.

On October 9 last month, Bashundhara Group appointed Abu Sayeed's brother Ramzan Ali as the senior executive of Bangladesh Pratidin's Rangpur bureau office and another brother Abu Hossain as the senior executive of TV channel News-24's Rangpur bureau office.

Meanwhile, regarding the reason for their resignation a month after getting the job, Abu Hossain said that the two brothers quit their jobs citing personal reasons. They sent resignation letters to the concerned authorities of Bashundhara Group by e-mail and post to inform them of the matter.

In this regard, Bangladesh Pratidin's own Rangpur correspondent Nazrul Mridha told the media that Abu Sayeed's brother Ramzan Ali was appointed as a senior executive of Bangladesh Pratidin's Rangpur bureau by Bashundhara Group. But he resigned from the job citing personal reasons. It is worth noting that Abu Sayeed, a student of the English department of Begum Rokeya University for the 2019-20 academic year and coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, was shot dead by police on July 16. He is the first martyr of the anti-discrimination student movement. After Abu Sayeed was killed, the movement spread widely across the country. As a result, the Sheikh Hasina government fell on August 5.

Labor Counselor Dr. Muhammad Kamrul Islam has lost his job after harassment incident of Professor Asif Nazrul, the interim government's adviser on law, justice and parliamentary affairs, in front of the Geneva airport in Switzerland.

In addition, it has been decided to cancel the job of Mizan, a former employee of the Ministry of Local Staff and Commerce.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that the government considers the incident with Asif Nazrul in Geneva to be intentional. The ministry has sought an explanation through a diplomatic letter from the Bangladesh Embassy and Permanent Mission in Geneva, Switzerland, asking why such an incident happened despite having a protocol with the adviser and who was involved in it.

They took action within a short time of receiving the diplomatic letter from the headquarters. According to the Bangladesh Embassy in Geneva, Dhaka has received a report that an official appointed to the Geneva Mission during the Awami League era and a local staff may be linked.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and diplomatic sources further told the media that in light of the mission's report, Labor Counselor (Bangladesh Embassy in Geneva) Muhammad Kamrul Islam has been released on leave. He has been asked to return to Dhaka as soon as possible. And it has been decided to cancel the service of Mizan, a former employee of the Ministry of Commerce, who was appointed as a local staff during the Awami League era.

In addition, the three masterminds of the harassment incident, Switzerland Awami League President Nazrul Islam Jamadar, General Secretary Shyamal Khan and Khalilur Rahman, convener of the Switzerland branch of Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee, have been identified.

The ministry also said that the process of taking legal action against them has been initiated.

According to sources in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, an emergency circular has been sent to all Bangladeshi missions abroad following the harassment of Asif Nazrul in Geneva. The circular has given utmost importance to two issues. First, ensuring proper protocol and security during the foreign visits of important government figures. Second, the officials of the missions, including the ambassador, must make every effort to avoid any untoward situation.

The number of patients and deaths from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease dengue fever is increasing day by day. In the last 24 hours, 5 people have died from the disease across the country. With this, the death toll this month has reached 75. In addition, 372 people have died of dengue this year.

This information was given in a press release on dengue sent from the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services on Wednesday (November 13) evening.

The notification said that 1,221 people have been admitted to the hospital due to dengue in the last 24 hours. With this, the number of infected people this year has increased to 76,021.

The notification also said that three people have died of dengue in Dhaka South City Corporation in the last 12 hours. In addition, a total of two people have died of dengue in Dhaka and Chattogram divisions in the last 24 hours.

On the other hand, the highest number of dengue patients (312 people) has been admitted to the hospital in Dhaka division in the last 24 hours. In addition, 213 people in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and 171 people in Dhaka South City Corporation have been hospitalized with dengue during this period.

In addition, in the last 12 hours, 160 people in Khulna division, 123 in Chattogram division, 95 in Barishal division, 66 in Rajshahi division, 35 in Mymensingh division, 28 in Rangpur division, 12 in Dhaka division and 6 in Sylhet division have been hospitalized with dengue.

The dengue situation has taken a terrible shape since June 2023. Last year, 321,179 patients were admitted to hospitals in the country and received treatment. On the other hand, 1,705 people have died from this mosquito-borne disease. This is the highest death record in the country's history so far.

Earlier, 1,11,354 people were infected with dengue nationwide in 2019. About 300 people, including doctors and health workers, died at that time.

Although dengue infection was not seen much during the Corona pandemic in 2020, 28,429 people were infected with dengue fever across the country in 2021. That year, 105 people died from dengue.

In addition, a total of 62,382 people were hospitalized with dengue in 2022. That year, 281 people died from the mosquito-borne disease.

The police have arrested two Awami League leaders in Annadanagar Union in Pirgachha, Rangpur.

They were arrested from Satdarga Bazar in Annadanagar Union on Wednesday (November 13).

It has been learned that one is the son of Mohar Uddin of Rajballabh village in Annadanagar Union of Pirgachha Upazila and the other is the son of Abdul Jalil of Nabupathan Para village in the same union.

The arrested are former president of Annadanagar Union Awami League and member of the convening committee of the union Awami League, Mujibur Rahman Hongkong. The other is the general secretary of the ward Awami League, Saidul Islam.

In this regard, Pirgachha Police Station OC (Investigation) Tajul Islam said on his mobile phone that two Awami League leaders in Annadanagar Union in Pirgachha have been arrested in three separate cases and sent to jail.
