The New Age newspaper editor Nurul Kabir has been allegation of being harassed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has ordered an investigation into the incident.

This information was given in a press release from the Chief Adviser's press wing on Saturday (November 23).

The release said that recently, prominent editor (The New Age) Nurul Kabir has alleged harassment at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. We sincerely regret this incident. The interim government will not tolerate harassment of any journalist in the country. Nurul Kabir was one of our most respected editors in his long career, a leading voice of reason and journalism. Chief Adviser Professor Yunus has ordered an investigation into the said undesirable incident.

Earlier today, Nurul Kabir said in a Facebook post, "The country's immigration authorities have been harassing me every time I go abroad for more than two decades."

In his post, Nurul Kabir cited examples of past harassment, saying that despite having the correct documents, he was interrogated about the reason for traveling abroad. Sometimes his passport was confiscated, and sometimes his passport pages were scanned and photographed, which is a violation of his privacy. It was even returned shortly before the flight took off.

He said that this harassment mainly happens when leaving the country, not when returning home.

He also wrote, "This time, when I was going to attend a media conference on November 18, I thought the days of harassment might be over. But I was wrong. This time the harassment has doubled—one hour during departure and another hour when I returned home on November 22."

He expressed his anger in his post, saying, "Being a patriot means being a suspect to intelligence agencies. As a result, I am forced to question the patriotism of the intelligence agencies concerned and the government that supervises them. 

Adviser to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Md. Nahid Islam said, the July Uprising has taught us to stand with self-respect. With this confidence, we will be able to build Bangladesh anew. We have to do this so that every person in Bangladesh gets the benefits of the July Uprising. If the nation needs it, we will take to the streets again.

He said these things in his speech as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the 11th GSC National Scientist Mania at the Government Science College on Saturday (November 23).

The adviser told the students of the college, there is no need to call me sir, I am your brother. We will move forward together shoulder to shoulder like the mass uprising. If we make a mistake, we will correct it.

In addition to providing state honors to the martyrs and injured in the July Uprising, he also said that arrangements will be made for the rehabilitation of the families of the martyrs and treatment of the injured.

Nahid Islam further said, there is a planned attempt to make students controversial. We should all be aware of this issue and behave responsibly. The disputes and conflicts among students are helping to present students negatively to the countrymen. If students are presented negatively, it will be easy to present the July Uprising negatively as well. Let no one take this opportunity.

He said, we have been protesting for so long, we have been on the streets, now it is time for us to form a state. Now we have to use our talent, we have to use our creativity.

He further said, Gen G has shown the world that they can free the country from tyranny by giving blood in the movement struggle, they are not lazy.

The adviser expressed his gratitude and thanks for the participation and sacrifice of the students of the Government Science College in the July Mass Uprising.

At the event, eminent nuclear scientist Professor Dr. Muhammad Shamsher Ali said, if there is no whim in science, science does not progress. May those injured in the mass movement receive lifelong healthcare. May the dreams of the agitators come true.

Chattogram: Touhidul Islam Farid (32) fired 28 rounds alone with a contract of Tk. 5,000 during the anti-discrimination student-public movement in Bahaddarhat area under Chandgaon police station in Chattogram city.

Deputy Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Md. Raish Uddin gave this information at a press conference at the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner's office on Saturday (November 23) afternoon.

Earlier, on Friday (November 22) at around 5:30 pm, Chandgaon police station of the city arrested him from Kamalnagar area of Sadar police station in Satkhira district.

There are 12 cases of arms, extortion, drugs and robbery against Touhid, including 5 murders. He is the son of Md. Sekandar of Manu Sawdagar house in Boro Pukurpar area of Shamsher Para under Chandgaon police station of the city.

Local sources and various media outlets said that Touhid is known as a follower of Esrarul Haque, a former councilor of Chandgaon ward of Chattogram City Corporation.

At a press conference, CMP Deputy Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Md. Raish Uddin said that based on secret information and with the help of information technology, Touhidul Islam, who opened fire on the anti-discrimination student-public movement, on Friday afternoon, was arrested from Kamalnagar area of Satkhira. He admitted to indiscriminately firing at the student-public movement with firearms in different areas of Chandgaon in the city.

Touhidul Islam said that he fired 28 rounds of bullets during the anti-discrimination student-public movement.

Md. Raish Uddin also said that the weapon used by Touhidul Islam is a Pakistani shooter gun and he has multiple weapons. An operation is underway to recover the weapons and bullets used by him. Touhidul's political identity has not been found. However, he is a professional terrorist and a robber. He has 12 cases of weapons, extortion, drugs and robbery against him in various police stations, including 5 murders.

After the press conference, arrested Touhidul Islam told reporters that former Chattogram City Corporation councilors Esrarul Haque and Mohiuddin Farhad made a contract for Tk. 5,000 to open fire on the student movement against discrimination. As per the contract, I had opened fire three to four rounds on the student movement against discrimination in the Bahaddarhat area on July 18

There is no alternative to early elections to establish the country and the rights of the people, said BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

He said these things while speaking as the chief guest at the district BNP conference at Chuadanga Town Football Ground on Saturday (November 23) afternoon.

At this time, Tarique Rahman said, all political parties are supporting this interim government. Elections are necessary to return power to the people of the country.

He said we had proposed 31 points of reforms two years ago for the development of the country. Reforms are an ongoing process. One will start, another will drag it out. Only if the interim government can organize fair and free elections, the people will be able to exercise their right to vote to elect their representatives.

Regarding the elections, he said, many people are wondering why we are repeatedly talking about elections. We believe that the interim government will be able to organize an election. As a result, the people's representatives who will be elected to the parliament will be able to decide through discussions in the parliament how to solve the problems of each sector of the country. All reforms can be implemented through a real and genuine election.

Addressing the leaders and workers, he said, "To take responsibility, you have to play a responsible role. To play a responsible role, you have to fulfill the expectations of the people around you. If you can fulfill these expectations, only then will people give you responsibility, otherwise they will think twice."
