Dhaka: The chief adviser of the interim government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, said that he considers himself a son of Rangpur due to the bravery and sacrifice of martyr Abu Sayeed in the July mass uprising.

While welcoming the family members of Abu Sayeed at his Tejgaon office in Dhaka on Thursday (November 28), Dr. Yunus said that he will consider me an adviser of Rangpur.

The chief adviser handed over the certificate of Shaheed Abu Sayeed Foundation to the family members of Shaheed Abu Sayeed. Abu Sayeed's father, Maqbul Hossain, accepted the certificate.

Abu Sayeed's nephew, Md. Liton Mia, was present at the time.

The chief adviser inquired about the physical condition of Abu Sayeed's parents and assured them of all kinds of cooperation from the government.

Professor Yunus met Abu Sayeed's parents in Babanpur village of Rangpur's North District on August 9, just a day after taking charge as the chief adviser to the interim government. He stood next to the grave of martyr Abu Sayeed and prayed.

Later, on November 6, two brothers of martyr Abu Sayeed paid a courtesy call on the chief adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka. During this meeting, they presented several demands to the chief advisor.

The University administration has suspended 5 teachers, 6 officials and an employee of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) on charges of actively obstructing the anti-discrimination student movement and getting recruited illegally.

The source said that the decision was taken at the University's 94th syndicate meeting held on November 21 after initial allegations of actively obstructing the anti-discrimination student movement, being directly involved in general student-teacher torture at various times, being actively involved in spreading political influence and violating Section 44 (5) of the Khulna University of Engineering and Technology Act, 2003 were found.

The Bangladesh Secretariat Officers-Employees Joint Council has called for a grand assembly at the Secretariat on December 4 to demand 9 points, including eliminating salary inequality.

The president of the council, Md. Badiul Kabir, made this announcement at a program organized under the banner of the Bangladesh Secretariat Officers-Employees Joint Council at the Secretariat on Thursday (November 28).

Dhaka: Members of the martyrs' families are going to the International Crimes Tribunal to seek 'proper justice' for the brutal killings at the then BDR headquarters in the capital's Peelkhana on February 25 and 26, 2009.

Advocate Shakib Rahman, son of martyred Colonel Qudrat Elahi, has said that a complaint will be filed with the International Crimes Tribunal within the next two weeks to ensure the 'real' facts of the killings and the trial of the conspirators behind the scenes.

This demand was made at a press conference organized at the Rawa Hall in Mohakhali, Rawa Hall, on Thursday (November 28) afternoon, 'trial of the killing of 74 people including 57 officers in Peelkhana and demand for Martyrs' Day'.

Nahrin Ferdousi, wife of martyr Colonel Mojibul Haque, raised the demands on behalf of the martyr's family. She said, February 25 should be declared as 'Martyrs' Army Day' through the gazette.

Demanding a fresh investigation into the Peelkhana massacre for a fair trial, she said, "Let us be informed about the progress of the proposed inquiry commission. Let all the previous investigation reports be made public."

She demanded that the 57 slain soldiers be given the status of martyrs in the official gazette, that the Peelkhana tragedy be appropriately included in the syllabus of school textbooks, and that all the innocent people arrested be given justice quickly after completing the trial.
