Bangladesh Mission activities in Agartala suspended
The services of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in North Agartala, in India's northeastern state of Tripura, have been suspended indefinitely.
This information was given in a notification signed by the Assistant High Commission's First Secretary and Head of Mission Md. Al Amin on Tuesday (December 3).
It said that in the context of the insecurity situation, all types of visa and consular services of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala will be suspended until further instructions.
On Monday, supporters of several organizations, including the Hindutva organization Hindu Sangharsh Samiti, entered the premises of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala and attacked. On this day, several hundred people are protesting near the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Mumbai, organized by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). Hindu Sangharsh Samiti is an affiliate organization of the VHP.
On Monday, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement on the incident that the incident of vandalism at the premises of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala is very regrettable. Diplomatic and consular property should not be targeted under any circumstances.
Indian law enforcement agencies have already arrested seven people in this incident. In addition, three Tripura police personnel have been dismissed for negligence of duty.
West Tripura Police SP Kiran Kumar said that the police have registered a case in this incident at the New Capital Complex police station in Agartala. The police have already started an investigation and will take action as per the law.
