Main accused in lawyer Saiful murder case arrested
The police have arrested Chandan, the main accused in the lawyer Saiful Islam Alif murder case in Chattogram.
He was arrested from Bhairab Bazar Railway Junction Station on Wednesday (December 4) night.
The matter was confirmed by Bhairab Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Shahin.
He said that the accused is currently in police custody. The arrest has been reported to the Chattogram Kotwali Police Station. He will be handed over to the police from Chattogram when the police actually arrive.
According to law enforcement sources, Chandan left Chattogram by train and got down at Bhairab Railway Station at 7:30 pm on Wednesday. His in-laws' house is in Methorpatti, Bhairab. He was roaming around the station after getting off the train. He intended to take shelter at his in-laws' house when the night fell. He was arrested on the basis of such information.
Meanwhile, a case has been filed against 31 people for the murder of Alif. On the night of November 29, the deceased's father Jamal Uddin filed a case with the Kotwali police station.
The accused in the case are Chandan, Aman Das, Shri Shuvo Kanti Das, Bunja, Ranab, Bidhan, Bikash, Ramit, Rumit Das, Nayan Das, Gagan Das, Vishal Das, Omkar Das, Vishal, Rajkapur, Lala, Sameer, Sohel, Shiv Kumar, Biglal, Parash, Shri Ganesh, Om Das, Poppy, Ajay, Devi Charan, Dev, Joy, Durlav Das and Rajiv Bhattacharya, all residents of the Bandel Road Sevak Colony area of the city's Kotwali police station.
In addition, Khan-e- Alam, the elder brother of the murdered lawyer Alif, has filed another case against 4 to 500 unknown people, including 115 names, alleging attacks and vandalism on lawyers in the court premises.
Incidentally, on November 25, the police's Intelligence Branch (DB) arrested Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson of Bangladesh Sammilit Sanatani Jagran Jote and ISKCON leader, from the capital's Shahjalal International Airport. Later, on November 26, he was produced before the Chattogram court. The court rejected his bail and ordered him to be sent to prison.
On the way to the court, the followers of Chinmoy Krishna Das blocked the prison van carrying him. On the way to take Chinmoy Krishna to prison, the law enforcement agencies and lawyers clashed with the followers of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari. At that time, lawyer Saiful Islam Alif was hacked to death by Chinmoy's supporters.
