President Md. Sahabuddin said that democracy must be institutionalized to bring the benefits of freedom achieved through the sacrifices of lakhs of martyrs to the doorsteps of the people. A culture of tolerance and mutual respect must be developed among political parties.

He said, let us, inspired by the spirit of the 2024 anti-discrimination movement, contribute more from our respective positions to build a discrimination-free country and implement the goals of the Liberation War and establish an exploitation-free society. Let us take the country and the nation further on the path of development and prosperity, and build a developed and prosperous new Bangladesh - this is my hope on the great Victory Day.

He said, I believe that the dream of the people of this country to build a non-discriminatory and corruption-free Bangladesh through the mass uprising of students and the public in July-August this year will soon be realized. The country of heroes, Bangladesh, will establish itself in the world in its own glory - InshaAllah.

Wishing everyone a great Victory Day, Md. Sahabuddin said, December 16 is our great Victory Day. After a long struggle and nine months of bloody war, on this day in 1971, we achieved the desired victory. We have gained a sovereign country, a sacred constitution, our own map and a red-green flag. We have gained our existence and dignity in the world as an independent nation. On this joyful day of victory, I extend my warmest wishes and congratulations to all Bangladeshis living in the country and abroad.

Remembering the martyrs of various democratic movements, including the great Liberation War and the 2024 anti-discrimination movement, he said, "On this day of victory, I remember with deep respect the heroic martyrs who sacrificed themselves in the Liberation War, whose supreme sacrifice earned our independence. I gratefully remember all the national leaders, heroic freedom fighters, two hundred thousand honorable mothers and sisters, organizers and supporters of the Liberation War, foreign friends, war wounded and martyr family members, and people from all walks of life, who have directly and indirectly contributed to our victory." I also remember those who were martyred in various democratic movements, including the anti-discrimination movement. The nation remembers their contributions with respect. The President said, "Independence is the greatest achievement of the Bengali nation. However, behind this achievement lies a long history of exploitation and deprivation, bloody struggle, and self-sacrifice." The dream journey of independence that began through the language movement of 1952 was fulfilled with the declaration of independence on March 26, 1971, after a long movement, struggle and various ups and downs. The final victory was achieved on December 16, 1971, through a long nine-month armed liberation war.

He said, the main goal of our liberation war was to ensure the economic liberation of the Bengalis along with political independence. Keeping that goal in mind, the struggle for economic liberation and the agricultural revolution began by reconstructing the economy and infrastructure of the war-torn country. But even after five decades of victory, the economic liberation of the people has not yet been achieved. Our democratic progress and path to economic liberation have been repeatedly obstructed.

Md. Sahabuddin said, the development and progress of Bangladesh has never stopped. Bangladesh is moving forward in various indicators of socio-economic development including health, education, and women's empowerment.

The President said, Bangladesh believes in world peace. War is not desirable for any country. Bangladesh believes that peaceful solutions to all problems are possible through negotiations. Bangladesh is always sincere in the humanitarian solution of international problems. Bangladesh strongly condemns the barbaric bombing of innocent and unarmed people by Israel in various parts of Palestine and Lebanon. Bangladesh will always stand by the Palestinian people in achieving any just rights. We hope that the international community will make an effective contribution to the safe and dignified return of the displaced Rohingyas in Bangladesh and a permanent solution to this problem. Thanking the expatriates, he said, the contribution of the expatriates to the economic development of Bangladesh is undeniable. Our expatriate brothers and sisters are making an important contribution to the national economy by sending their hard-earned remittances home. The nation remembers their contribution with gratitude. I hope that during this time of global recession and economic crisis, the expatriates will continue to send remittances and make a positive contribution to the development of the country.
