ACC files two cases against Taposh and his wife

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate corruption cases against former Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh and his wife Afrin Taposh.

On Sunday (January 5), ACC Deputy Director Monirul Islam filed the two cases as the plaintiff at the ACC's Dhaka Integrated District Office. ACC Director General Md. Akhter Hossain confirmed the matter.

The couple has been charged with acquiring illegal assets worth around Tk. 80 crore and making unusual transactions worth Tk. 615 crore.

The case statement said that Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh is accused of acquiring illegal assets worth around Tk. 73 crore, making suspicious transactions worth Tk. 538 crore and over 500,000 US dollars in 27 bank accounts.

In addition, his wife Afrin Taposh has been accused of acquiring illegal assets worth more than Tk. 6 crore 43 lakh, and making unusual transactions worth 70 crore 80 lakh dollars and 395,000 US dollars in 9 bank accounts.
