Thakurgaon: The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested five Bangladeshi nationals while trying to enter India through the Naldanga border in Pirganj upazila of Thakurgaon district.
On Saturday (February 8) morning, members of the Chanderhat BOP of Dinajpur Battalion (42 BGB) arrested them.
The BGB said that around 7:30 am on Saturday, five people were seen moving suspiciously in a place called Naldanga, about 50 yards inside Bangladesh from the main pillar 332/8 S of the border. At that time, 76,300 taka was found with them. Later, during interrogation, it was learned that they were trying to enter India illegally.
The arrested persons are - Rabi Roy (45), his wife Kabita Rani Roy (40), sons Antar Roy (17) and Apu Roy (15) of Inua village of Pirganj upazila of Thakurgaon district. Besides, a woman named Nidul Bewa (57) from Chengon village of Bochaganj upazila of Dinajpur was also arrested.
Commanding Officer (CO) of BGB Battalion Lt. Col. Md. Ahsan ul Islam (PSC) said that the detainees have been handed over to Pirganj Police Station. Further action will be taken against them after taking legal action.
In this regard, Pirganj Police Station (OC) (Officer-in-Charge) Md. Tajul Islam said that the BGB has handed over the detainees to the police station. We have sent them to Thakurgaon District Court.
It is worth noting that infiltration incidents often occur through the Thakurgaon and Dinajpur borders. Although the law enforcement agencies have said that they will increase surveillance at the border, locals say that this trend is not decreasing.
