Former Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed has been arrested by the Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RMP).
He was arrested from a relative's house in a lane adjacent to the post office on Central Road in Rangpur Metropolitan City at around 9:30 pm on Thursday (January 30).
Confirming the arrest, RMP Commissioner Md. Majid Ali said that he was arrested from that house based on a secret tip-off. There are multiple cases against him, including charges of assault, murder and attempted murder during the anti-discrimination student movement.
After investigation, it was learned that a case has been filed against former Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed and his son, including 128 others, in the case of the death of Mahamudul Hasan Munna during the anti-discrimination movement in Rangpur. The case was filed in the Rangpur Metropolitan Magistrate Kotwali Cognizance Court on August 29 last year by Munna's father Abdul Majid.
Meanwhile, it has been learned that eight cases have been filed in the name of former minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed in Lalmonirhat district after August 5.
