The Bangladesh National Hindu Alliance has demanded a separate electoral system for minority communities. They made this demand at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity on Friday (January 31) morning.

The press conference was organized in protest against the lack of any constructive recommendations to establish the interests and rights of Hindus in the proposal of the interim government's reform committee and the lack of a separate electoral system as per the demands of the Hindu community.

Executive President of the National Hindu Alliance Pradeep Kumar Pal delivered a special speech at the press conference. He highlighted the structure of the separate electoral system and said in a written statement that the minority community is 12 percent of the total population. Of this, Hindus are 10 percent. Buddhists and Christians are 2 percent. If the parliamentary seats are 350, 42 should be reserved for religious minorities in that proportion. Of these, 38 should be for Hindus, 3 for Buddhists and 1 for Christians. Separate elections should also be held in these seats.

Pradeep Kumar further said that the Bangladesh National Hindu Mahajot proposed a separate election system in all areas including the National Parliament and local governments, along with a logical reason for the Constitution Reform Commission and the Election Reform Commission.

Stating that the Awami League has used it politically, Pradeep Kumar said that no previous government was sincere about a permanent solution to the Hindu problem. The Awami League has used the Hindu community in Bangladesh as political capital. However, the Awami League has no role in the development of the Hindu community.

At the press conference, National Hindu Mahajot President Dinabandhu Roy said that separate elections must be arranged. They have no other demands. If their demands are not met, there will be no option but to boycott the vote.

National Hindu Mahajot Vice President Nitai De Sarkar, Joint Secretary General Bishwanath, Organizing Secretary Kishore Kumar Barman and many others also spoke at the press conference.
