The Anti-Corruption Commission has summoned lawmaker Mahi B Chowdhury and his wife Ashfa Haque Lopa for interrogation over their alleged involvement in money laundering.

Jalal Uddin Ahmed, deputy director of the commission on Sunday sent a letter asking them to appear before the anti-graft body at its Segunbagicha headquarters at 10:00am on August 7.

According to the letter, Mahi B Chowdhury, son of former president AQM Badrudozza Chowdhury and Joint Secretary General of Bikalpadhara Bangladesh, have allegedly laundered money to the United States.

Mahi also amassed money beyond known sources of income, ACC alleged.

   

River Padma is eroding untimely creating panic among people

Suddenly, river erosion was seen in Daulatdia of Goalundo upazila of Rajbari. Ferry ghat area number 6 has been affected by high erosion. People across the river are in panic due to new erosion. An area of about 50 meters has been devoured in the river due to erosion in the last one week. Due to the erosion of Padma River, the people living on the bank of Padma have been already suffering.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has started the work of placing geo bags filled with sand from Thursday (May 9) morning to prevent erosion since last one week.

In the meantime Goalundo Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jyoti Bikas Chandra has visited the affected areas. After the visit, he said that the prevention of river erosion will be done on a priority basis deciding where to drop geo bags first. Work will continue accordingly.

Going to the erosion area, it can be seen that Daulatdia No. 6 ghat area has suffered more due to untimely erosion. To prevent erosion, workers are filling sand from the trawler and throwing geo bags in the river with the help of BIWTA.

Thousands of people on the banks of the Padma flowing over the Rajbari are affected by massive erosion every year during the monsoon season. They suffered huge losses. Various religious and educational institutions along with paved structures, residential houses and agricultural lands were destroyed by river erosion. Rajbari Town Protection Embankment is under threat.

Although the Water Development Board works every year to prevent erosion, the victims have many complaints about it. The people of Padma bank claim that it is a gang of dishonest government officials who are looting lakhs of government money by doing half done and under rated work. They demanded to take permanent measures to prevent river erosion.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged the youth to become entrepreneurs instead of chasing jobs.

She made this call on Friday (May 10) in a view exchange meeting with the members of the One House One Farm project at Tungipara Upazila Awami League office in Gopalganj.

Sheikh Hasina said, our goal is to ensure food security and social development. Cooperatives should be spread throughout the country. From what is produced through the cooperative, one can save even if he wants to. Rural Savings Bank will help in this regard.

Stating that loans are being given without collateral, the head of government said, "Our aim is to improve the quality of life of people by eradicating poverty." Leaders can use the cooperative system through poverty alleviation and micro-savings in their respective areas.

Sheikh Hasina said to cultivate all the uncultivated land in Kotalipara-Tungipara. She said, these lands will be cultivated under cooperatives. She will get a share of the harvest of each land.

The Awami League president also said that she will come to Tungipara with her sister Sheikh Rehana when she retires.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid her respects at the tomb of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Tungipara and participated in prayers there.

BAF Pilot Jawad was buried at Seota graveyard

The burial of pilot Asim Jawad, who was killed in an air force training plane crash in Patenga, Chattogram, has been completed. He was buried at Seota graveyard in Manikganj after a guard of honor was given at 3 pm on Friday (May 10).

Earlier on Friday, the third namaz-e-Janaza was held at Shaheed Miraj-Tapan stadium ground in Manikganj district town. At that time Asim Jawad's father, officials of various departments of Air Force were present. And at 12:15 PM, a Bangladesh Biman helicopter carrying his body landed at Manikganj Shaheed Miraj-Tapan Stadium.

It is to be noted that on Thursday (May 9) around 12:30 PM, pilot Jawad died while undergoing treatment at Banouja Isa Khan Hospital (Navy Hospital) in Patenga. Earlier, an Air Force Yak-130 fighter jet crashed around 10:30 am. Later, the training fighter crashed into the Karnaphuli river near the Chattogram Boat Club.

Crashed fighter plane recovered from the bottom of Karnaphuli

After about 12 hours, the crashed fighter plane of the Air Force which crashed in the mouth of Karnaphuli river in Patenga area of Chattogram city was recovered by the Navy.

The plane was recovered from the bottom of the Karnaphuli river on Thursday (May 9) around 10:30 pm.

An official of the Chattogram Navy confirmed the recovery of the aircraft.

Earlier, on Thursday (May 9) around 10:30 am, an Air Force training fighter jet crashed in the Karnaphuli River estuary. A pilot was killed in this incident.

Shah Amanat International Airport Public Relations Officer Ibrahim Khalil told Barta24.com that the YAK130 training fighter jet sparked on the runway while taking off. Then it went up and crashed.

Meanwhile, the ISPR informed that the fighter plane has crashed in Patenga, Chattogram due to mechanical failure.
