Seeing that the relations between Bangladesh and the United States are moving forward, the Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud commented that BNP is passing sleepiness nights.

He said that US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Donald Lu came on this visit to promote relations with Bangladesh. He spoke with me about how to take the relationship forward in the bilateral meeting. He has even expressed his intention to return GSP benefits to us if we reform in some areas. At the same time they have a special fund aimed at overcoming the global economic recession. He also said to help us from there. Our relationship with the US is very good. We are working to move the relationship forward. That is why the BNP's head is worse.

The foreign minister said these things while addressing the chief guest at the discussion meeting organized on the occasion of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's 44th Homecoming Day at Kazi Deuri International Convention Hall in Chattogram city on Saturday (May 18) afternoon. Chattogram Metropolitan Awami League organized this discussion meeting.

BNP is a fraudulent political party. Hasan Mahmud said, you remember that on October 28 last year, the BNP presented Joe Biden's fake advisor. When the fake adviser is in the BNP office, he only speaks English. When the police took him away, I saw him babbling Bengali.

He said that the BNP had forged the signatures of the US Congressmen. At that time India's Amit Shah called. Amit Shah's office said he did not call anyone; the voice that was released was not Amit Shah's. Seeing the development progress of the country, BNP and their allies are upset. Sometimes I see that the GM Quader also gets upset.

The minister said, before the elections, we saw that BNP used to visit different embassies every day. And they used to court, so that the election could be stopped, but to no avail. The election was held, 42 percent of the people voted. Had it not been foggy and bitterly cold on Election Day, more people would have voted.

He said, Bangladesh has had a very good election. If the election was not good, then the government or the head of state of 80 countries of the world would not have congratulated our Prime Minister. The President of the United States wrote a letter congratulating and said, "We want to take the relationship with Bangladesh to new heights." Two days ago the Prime Minister of Australia also congratulated our Prime Minister. This is why the BNP is upset. Perhaps that is why BNP leader Dr. Moin Khan is talking like an astrologer.

Senior BNP leader at age with respect to Moin Khan, the foreign minister said that he has started performing the duties of an astrologer outside of politics. Moin Khan's father Abdul Momen Khan was the Food Secretary when Bangabandhu was ruling the country. His father manipulated the return of food ships from the Indian Ocean, causing food shortages in the country. Abdul Momen Khan was instrumental in making Bangabandhu unpopular by creating a food crisis. As a reward, Ziaur Rahman made Abdul Momen Khan a food adviser with the status of a minister after seizing power. After the election of 1979, Abdul Momen Khan said in a speech in parliament as the food minister that he would sell the country if needed for food. Moin Khan is his son.

Awami League joint general secretary Dr. Hashan Mahmud said, today if we want to move the country forward, if we want to realize the dreams of the people of Bangladesh, the only alternative to people's leader Sheikh Hasina is Sheikh Hasina, there is no other alternative in this country. He showed the nation a dream of Digital Bangladesh. That dream has come true. Our slogan in 2018 was My Village My City. Today villages have become like cities, there is no difference between village and city.

He said, this time we have given the slogan 'Smart Bangladesh'. Smart Bangladesh means Smart Society, Smart Economy, Smart Governance and Smart People. We want to create Smart Bangladesh with these four components. Inshallah, under the leadership of People's Leader Sheikh Hasina, we will win this campaign too. But the BNP and their allies want to block our march. That is why there are various conspiracies.

Bangladesh Awami League Relief and Social Welfare Affairs Secretary Aminul Islam Amin, Chattogram Metropolitan Awami League General Secretary former Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin were special guests in the discussion meeting held under the chairmanship of Bir Muktijoddha Mahatab Uddin Chowdhury. Metropolitan Awami League Vice President Advocate Ibrahim Hossain Chowdhury Babul, Alhaj Khorshed Alam Sujan, Altaf Hossain Chowdhury Bachchu, Secretarial Board members Shafiq Adnan, Shafiqul Islam Farooq, Advocate Sheikh Iftekhar Saimul Chowdhury, Chandan Dhar, Moshiur Rahman and others spoke in it.

Based on the two-nation theory, Pakistan was formed in 1948 after the partition of the country the sole hegemony of the Muslim League in the new country was set. However, the progressive (liberal) leaders of the Bengali Provincial Muslim League led by Suhrawardy-Abul Hashem were neglected. On the other hand, the election commission declared the results of Mawlana Bhasani and Shamsul Haque invalid despite defeating the Muslim League candidate in a by-election. Later, the 'East Pakistan Awami Muslim League' was formed by the union of these two parties.

These neglected leaders of the Muslim League and another group led by Mawlana Bhasani and Shamsul Haque then planned to form a new party. According to the plan, Mawlana Bhasani was made the president and Yar Mohammad Khan the general secretary as the preparatory committee for calling a meeting. They called a meeting but could not find an auditorium to hold the meeting.

Later on June 23, 1949, Kazi Humayun Rashid of KM Das Lane called for a meeting in the Rose Garden owned by him. That afternoon, in the presence of 250-300 people, it was decided to form a new political party. There Mawlana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani proposed the name of the party. According to that proposal, the party was named 'East Pakistan Awami Muslim League'. In the case of whole Pakistan, the name is kept as 'Nikhil Pakistan Awami Muslim League'.

A committee of 40 members was formed there for the new party. Mawlana Bhasani became the first committee president. Ataur Rahman Khan, Ali Amjad Khan, Ahmed Ali Khan, Shakhawat Hossain and Abdus Salam Khan became the vice presidents.

Shamsul Haque became the general secretary. The treasurer was Yar Mohammad Khan, whose first meeting was held in the Rose Garden owned by him. At that time Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was detained in jail but he was made joint general secretary.

On the other hand, Hossain Shaheed Suhrawardy was made the president of 'Nikhil Pakistan Awami Muslim League'.

The party that started on that day has entered 75 years today after going through various crises. Among these, the party has led various democratic, political and social movements including the independence and liberation war of Bangladesh. In 1955, the Awami Muslim League Council removed the word Muslim from the name of the party after coming out of communalism and inspired by non-communal spirit.

Awami League is one of the country's oldest, non-sectarian, largest and leading political party in the Bengali national liberation struggle. The first work of building a non-communal Bangladesh started with the hands of that Awami League which was led by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

From the language movement of 1952 to the nine-month liberation war of 1971 and the final victory on December 16 through the armed people's war, Awami League is the party that has led everywhere. Also, the anti-military Ayub movement of 1954, the establishment of communal harmony after the 1964 riots, the six-point movement of 1966 and the popular uprising of 1969 were all under the party's absolute control which was led by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Awami League suffered a shock after the killing of Bangabandhu and his family in 1975. However, the party came to power again in 1996 through a long struggle of twenty-one years after overcoming it with the homecoming of the current Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina which was led by Bangabandhu's daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

After losing the election in 2001, Awami League faced the misrule of the BNP-Jamaat alliance government, the movement against repression and all the conspiracies of the undemocratic caretaker government and won the people's vote again in 2008 by announcing the 'Day Change Charter' and since then, it has won 4 consecutive terms and formed the government.

In the last 15 years, the country has made incredible progress and has become a developing country. It has ensured that the benefits of development reach the grassroots level. In addition, the party took various successful initiatives like enforcing the verdict of the murderers of the Father of the Nation, prosecuting the war criminals by establishing the 'International Crimes Tribunal' and enforcing the judgment, ensuring the people's right to vote through the fifteenth amendment to the constitution and stopping the way of illegal seizure of power.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's daughter Sheikh Hasina has done all these things. After the death of Bangabandhu, she has been successfully leading this party for more than 4 decades. The leaders and workers of the party got encouragement under her leadership. Awami League as an organization has prospered. The people of Bengal got a taste of democracy after crossing the border of dictatorship. In keeping with the evolution of time, Bangladesh is the dream adventurer of Smart Bangladesh by crossing the path of Digital Bangladesh.

Under the leadership of Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has already been promoted from a less developed country to a developing country. As a result of his long struggle and sacrifice, the Bengali nation got back the right to 'rice and vote'. The democratic movement began. Good governance, stable economy, increasing agricultural production and achieving self-sufficiency in food, dynamism in development, digital Bangladesh, expansion of education, ensuring health services, employment, increasing power generation, social safety net, food security, empowerment of women have made breakthrough development in various fields. Bangladesh has been established as a self-respecting nation in the world.

Awami League has established the people as its source of strength since its birth. The source of strength of the organization is the grassroots level leaders and activists. Therefore, the history of Awami League is the history of the glorious achievements and struggles of the Bengali nation.

75th establishment of Awami League on June 23 has already announced a 10-point program on the occasion of the anniversary (platinum jubilee). Among which, on Sunday (June 23) at sunrise, the national and party flags will be hoisted at the central office and nationwide Awami League party offices.

Tribute to the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the historical Bangabandhu Bhavan premises at Dhanmondi number 32 at 7 am. At 10:30 in the morning, a delegation of the Awami League Central Executive will pay tribute at the grave of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who is lying in eternal sleep in Tungipara.

The members of the delegation are: Presidium member Lieut. Colonel (Retd.) Muhammad Farooq Khan MP, Central Committee Member Abul Hasnat Abdullah MP, Presidium Member Shajahan Khan MP, Organizing Secretary SM Kamal Hossain, Agriculture and Cooperative Affairs Secretary Faridunnahar Laili MP, Education and Human Resource Affairs Secretary Begum Shamsunnahar MP, Health and Population Affairs Secretary. Dr. Rokeya Sultana MP, Central Executive Member of Parliament Sahabuddin Faraji and others.

Meanwhile, on the occasion of the founding anniversary, the program will be inaugurated at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan at 2:15 PM by hoisting the national and party flags, playing the national anthem, and flying balloons and pigeons. After that, discussion meeting and cultural program will be held at 2:30 pm. Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will preside over the event.

Arakan Army fired, not Myanmar government: Obaidul Quader

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has commented that the bullet that hit St. Martin was not fired by the Myanmar government but by the Arakan Army.

He said that no direct attack was seen in Bangladesh. As part of the internal conflict between several ethnic groups in Myanmar, these recent incidents are likely to have been perpetrated by rebel groups, not the Myanmar government.

Obaidul Quader said these things while talking to reporters after the post-Eid meeting with the officials and employees of the ministry on Wednesday (June 19).

Obaidul Quader said that there may be gunshots or the sound of gunshots can be heard at the border. What a violation of sovereignty! These incidents are happening because of their rebels. Why should we blame the Myanmar government! We will continue to discuss as long as possible.

Obaidul Quader said in response to BNP's allegation that "the government is following a knee-jerk foreign policy" on the St. Martin Island issue, while the opposition is terming the government's decision as "subservient". But how is it subservient! The bullet that hit St. Martin was not fired by the Myanmar government, but by the Arakan Army rebels.

At this time, he spoke about Bangladesh's commitment to resolve the conflict through dialogue instead of war.

Obaidul Quader said that the Myanmar warship has been removed from the border Naf river. As the Rohingyas swept into Bangladesh like a tide, there was still provocation. At times there were complaints that our airspace was being violated. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was in Washington at that time, ordered the Chiefs of the armed forces to avoid war under any circumstances. If Myanmar provokes, we will sit in dialogue and find a solution but we will not engage in war.

He said, if BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir wants to join the war, then we can fall into the trap of provocation. We are in the government, we have responsibilities.

Questioning Fakhrul's contribution in the liberation war, Obaidul Quader said, "I don't know what Fakhrul did or in which sector he fought during the liberation war."

There is no point in making such a claim. Sovereignty remains intact. If sovereignty is really violated and negotiations fail, if they really attack, then we will sit quietly! We must respond.

Earlier on June 15, Obaidul Quader said about the tension on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border, some clashes are taking place inside our neighboring country Myanmar. There are 54 committees. None of them match. Rakhine-Arakan rebels are openly rebelling. If we suffer for their internal conflict, that too is very unfortunate!

He said, Myanmar currently has a military government. We have no enmity with them. The door to negotiations is still open. We can talk as long as we can talk, discuss, 'We are not at a move down' stage, if not, we are trying to solve it through dialogue and we will do it.

BNP spread false propaganda against government even on Eid day: Quader

Awami League General Secretary and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has commented that BNP has not stopped spreading lies and propaganda against the government even on the day of Eid.

He made this comment in response to a question from journalists at Awami League's Dhanmondi office on Tuesday (June 18).

Obaidul Quader said that BNP's claim that Qurbani have decreased due to price inflation is not true, Qurbani have increased compared to last year. The problem is BNP and Mirza Fakhrul.

He said, I did not taunt the opposition party on the day of Eid. My greetings to all. On the day of Eid, at least I refrain from throwing mud at each other.

He also said that last year on the first day of Eid-ul-Azha, 1 crore 3 thousand Qurbani took place, this time it was more than 1 crore 3 lakh on the first day. There is time today and tomorrow. Accept that inflation is close to 10 percent. But it was not 25 percent like Pakistan, 70 percent like Turkey or 300 percent like Argentina. So much propaganda, criticism, some intellectuals wanted to make Bangladesh Sri Lanka. We have sincerity, efforts. The Prime Minister is constantly trying. There is a mindset to right the wrongs of the past.

In response to another question, Mirza Fakhrul Islam challenged Alamgir and said, "Where has the sovereignty been hurt?" The ship withdrew from Saint Martin, taking back those who had infiltrated. A volley of Arakan rebels came towards St. Martin. They are fighting against the government of that country, the government of Myanmar, whatever it is. No incident of violation of Bangladesh's sovereignty or conflict was provoked by the government. We said before Mirza Fakhrul's speech, we will not incite anyone. But if affected, no one will be exempted.

Responding to the question about the corruption of former police officers and why action was not taken while they were in charge, he said how to take action before it came to the attention of the government, the corruption of individuals was not even investigated by the ACC, then how will we know. ACC and Judiciary are independent, they can investigate corruption, prosecute anyone. There is no obstacle from the government here. Our Prime Minister has not given shelter to corruption. Anyone should be brought to justice. But if we talk about the regime of BNP and Jatiya Party then there was a lot of corruption and terrorism. They were not tried.

Budget can't be termed as people-friendly: GM Quader

The proposed budget for the financial year 2024-25 cannot be called people-friendly, because of indirect taxes, the tax burden on people's heads will increase. Leader of opposition in the Jatiya Sangsad and Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader commented that there is no way for the emancipation of the people.

He responded in front of the media persons next to the Jatiya Sangsad tunnel after announcing the budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 on Thursday (June 6).

Jatiya Party Chairman said that Tk. 5 lakh 45 thousand 400 crores of revenue has been shown. 62 percent is direct tax, the rest is indirect tax. This has increased the tax burden on the common people. Inflation is unlikely to come down. Income tax is only 36 percent, import duty is 10.3 percent, VAT is 38.1 percent and supplementary duty is 13.8 percent. We do not see any initiative to save the poor people.

Lack of environment will not increase foreign investment; it will not create job opportunities. Bangladesh will face a major economic crisis after this budget. The budget has been conventional nothing special beyond what has happened in the past few years. There is an economic crisis in the country. Inflation, prices of goods are increasing every day. There is unemployment problem. Foreign exchange is more than what is being earned, is being spent. Reserves are decreasing every day. This is reducing the price of our money. He commented that any steps or initiatives to overcome them are being targeted in this budget.

GM Quader said that the budget has been made at Tk. 7 lakh 97 thousand crores. Operating expenses are Tk. 5 lakh 6 thousand 171 crores. And the development cost is Tk. 2 lakh 81 thousand 453 crores. Income is much less than expenditure. The revenue shown is Tk. 5 lakh 45 thousand 400 crores. There is a deficit of Tk. 2 lakh 51 thousand 6 crores. The deficit is being met through domestic and foreign loans. Loan installments are being paid with the loan. After paying interest from Tk.1 lakh 27 thousand crore foreign debt, we can use Tk. 90 thousand 700 crore.

He said that Tk. 1 lakh 60 thousand 900 crores of domestic debt has to be done. Operating expenses and borrowings are being done. Domestic debt interest is Tk. 93 thousand crores and foreign debt interest is Tk. 20 thousand 500 crores. Borrowing now has interest to be paid in the future.

He also said that what the government is saying is corruption or shame. The government says 30,000 MW of generation capacity has been created. In practice 13 to 15 thousand MW can be used. Load shedding has to be done only when 15 to 16 thousand MW is required. Load shedding is going on across the country. After 15,000 additional 15,000 megawatts are not being produced, but capacity charges are being paid. In the name of capacity charge, Tk. 1 lakh 37 thousand crore have been installed in all those plants. The causes of people's loss are being shown in a profitable way. However, still not everyone is getting electricity, gas. The government has given importance to the import of gas but has not taken the initiative of production. We have to pay a huge amount. Our energy security is very much under threat.

Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud MP, Md. Mujibul Haque Chunnu MP, ABM Ruhul Amin Howladar MP, Advocate Salma Islam MP, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed MP, Golam Kibria Tipu MP, Masud Uddin Chowdhury MP, AKM Selim Osman MP, AKM Mostafizur Rahman MP, Md. Shariful Islam Jinnah, Md. Ashrafuzzaman Ashu MP and Nurunnahar Begum MP were present.
