Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said in a statement that the spirit of the Great Liberation War and Anti-Liberation forces have influenced the quota reform movement.

He said this in a statement sent to the media by Awami League office secretary Biplab Barua on Friday (July 12).

Awami League General Secretary said that the Appellate Division has given a stay order of four weeks on the judgment of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court regarding reservation of quota in government jobs. After this order of the Appellate Division, the judgment of the High Court Division has no effect at present. Still, there is no justification for the students' movement to continue. The spirit of the Great War of Liberation and the evil forces against freedom has filled this movement.

Questioning against whom the students will protest, the Bridges Minister said, the order of the Supreme Court's Appellate Division is in their favor. The continuation of the movement after this proves that some group or faction is instigating the movement to achieve a political objective. If the students continue this movement, the suffering of the common people will increase. Public suffering is being created. If the people become hostage to this movement, they will lose confidence in the young students. A certain political faction is trying to gain advantage by creating conflict between students and people.

He said, "We do not believe that all sensible students want to ignore the directives of the highest court of the country." Only those who are politically motivated are trying to show force by ignoring the court's directives.

Obaidul Quader said that whenever there is any movement, BNP-Jamaat and their allies use it as a tool and they are consumed by the nightmare of coming to power. Now they are trying to build on the quota movement because people have no confidence in them. When they were in power they turned Bangladesh into a failed state through corruption, looting, terrorism and extremism.

He said that BNP’s convicted fugitive leader Tariq Rahman institutionalized corruption by opening Hawa Bhaban. Thousands of crores of money are illegally smuggled out of the country and live a luxurious life in London. He has no relation with the common people of the country. BNP has been rejected by the people time and again due to the non-politicos of this corrupt leadership. They could not succeed in any anti-government movement. Therefore, whenever a non-political movement is organized, BNP tries to politicize it by capitalizing it.

Obaidul Quader said, Awami League is always sincere towards the logical demands of the people of the country. No logical demand was ever ignored by the Awami League. Bangladesh Awami League is always working towards the construction of a prosperous state by embracing the hopes and aspirations of the people.

Calling upon the young students, Awami League General Secretary said, you will not be abused as someone's political tool. At the final hearing, the counsel for the agitators has the opportunity to present further arguments. The highest court of the country will settle the matter through the final hearing. The court will take into account the grievances of the protesting students during the final hearing and give a realistic final judgment and the matter will be settled.

Calling upon the agitators to be patient, he said, I request them to avoid all such programs that may cause suffering to the people and return to their educational institutions as per the court's instructions.
