Dhaka: Jatiya Party has temporarily postponed the rally and protest march program to be held at the Jatiya Party central office, Kakrail.

The party informed the media about the matter in a message sent to the media on Friday. It also said that the Jatiya Party has taken this decision with respect to the law as the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance, under the power of Section 29 (meeting place), has banned any kind of meeting, rally, procession, demonstration, etc. in the surrounding areas including Building No. 66, Pioneer Road, Kakrail. The next program will be officially announced by the Jatiya Party later on.

The distance between the Jatiya Party and the anti-discrimination student movement is gradually increasing. Although it started with opposing statements, both sides have now taken the path of showing strength on the field.

The anti-discrimination student movement announced that it would resist the Jatiya Party by declaring it an ally of the Awami League. In response to that incident, the Jatiya Party declared Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam, two leaders of the anti-discrimination student movement in Rangpur, as unwanted.

After the Jatiya Party's announcement, Sarjis Alam protested by holding a procession with sticks and brooms when he went to Rangpur. The situation became more complicated from then on.

The Jatiya Party was quite happy to be invited to the meeting of the army chief and the president on August 5, the day the Awami League government fell. Although their two head offices were attacked on the day the Sheikh Hasina government fell, they kept the matter under wraps. Everything was going well, after the name was announced, Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader also congratulated Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the chief adviser to the interim government.

The dispute began with a speech by Md. Nurul Haque (VP Nur), president of the Gano Adhikar Parishad, who is close to the interim government and the anti-discrimination movement. VP Nur said that a weed like the Jatiya Party, a pawnbroker, will not be given space. Jatiya Party is the virus of Bangladesh politics. How did this virus come to Bangabhaban? Jatiya Party must be banned.

The scene began to change after VP Nur's announcement. On August 12, the JP met with BNP-Jamaat and small political parties, but they were not invited. Jatiya Party also did not get an invitation for the second round of meetings. It is said that Jatiya Party made many demands and courted for the meeting.

In the meantime, a murder case was filed against GM Quader and top leaders. In response, Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader said that injustice is being done by false cases against Jatiya Party leaders; we will not accept this injustice. We will protest the false cases on the streets.

At the Jatiya Party Presidium meeting on October 17, GM Quader said, Jatiya Party leaders and activists have given their blood in the anti-discrimination student movement, and if necessary, they will protest against harassment by filing false cases with blood. We will protest the false cases on the streets. We are being treated unfairly by filing false cases against Jatiya Party. It was announced at that meeting that a protest rally would be held on November 2.

When the Jatiya Party was preparing for the protest rally on November 2, a team of eight to ten people came in front of the Jatiya Party office on Kakrail Pioneer Road around 9 pm on October 28 and made threats. They set fire to some banners in front of the Jatiya Party office and left. Later, the Jatiya Party responded by holding a protest march.

Jatiya Party Joint Office Secretary Mahmud Alam told Barta24.com that a group of youths tried to attack during the preparation committee meeting of the Jatiya Party central office on Thursday (October 31) evening. Later, the leaders and activists chased them away.

Soon after that incident, students and the public held a torchlight procession at the Raju Statue of Dhaka University. A fire broke out shortly after the procession left for the party's central office. The party said that some youths came from the Paltan direction and set fire to the ground floor of the office.

The party has not seen any visible programs on the field for several years. The party's activities were limited to speeches and statements in parliament on issues of the general public. On the one hand, the anger of going with the Awami League in the one-sided elections, on the other hand, their silence on the public's suffering has distanced them from the general public day by day. In addition, the leadership crisis has become apparent.

The Jatiya Party, founded by military ruler Hussain Muhammad Ershad, has probably set a record for the most divisions. 6 political parties are roaming the field under the name of Jatiya Party. The party has lost many influential leaders in each round. Again, many leaders have become inactive due to Ershad's unilateral decisions. Most recently, a new Jatiya Party has been formed under the leadership of Ershad's wife, Roushan. Those who used to come in large numbers to hold programs in the capital have now joined Roushan's group.

Since 2008, the Jatiya Party has been in parliament in various ways, with the Awami League. Sometimes it was a partner in the government (2008 and 2014) and even in 2014, it created a rare precedent of being in the government and the opposition at the same time. At that time, amidst fierce criticism within the party, Hussain Muhammad Ershad's Jatiya Party was in the government cabinet and the opposition seat for the entire 5 years. The party's head, Hussain Muhammad Ershad, was the then Prime Minister's special envoy with the rank of a minister. And the opposition leader's seat was held by Senior Co-Chairman Roushan Ershad.

Although most political parties boycotted the 2024 elections, the Jatiya Party participated in the elections under the leadership of GM Quader. The Awami League gave up 26 seats.

Leaders of various political parties believe that the Awami League got some advantage in the 2014, 2018 and 2024 elections because of the Jatiya Party. And the Jatiya Party has forgotten about the general public by sharing power. Although the Jatiya Party has always said that they went to the elections under pressure. Sometimes it is claimed that they stayed with the Awami League in the face of threats. But the general public is not accepting their speeches from the political parties in that way. And out of that anger, the students have announced to resist the Jatiya Party. The Jatiya Party has also announced to respond on the field.

Dhaka: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has commented that the fugitive fascist Sheikh Hasina has no forgiveness for the genocide.

He said this at a discussion meeting on the occasion of the 52nd founding anniversary of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) at the Jatiya Press Club on Thursday (October 31) afternoon.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that we should not forget the Awami genocide in various ways. And there will be no forgiveness for the fugitive fascist Sheikh Hasina for the genocide.

Referring to the political parties, he said that the current period must be passed very carefully. We must reach our goal with patience. He said that the only responsibility of the interim government is to remove the garbage and arrange a meaningful election. We have given the clause of state reform in 31 points. Any reform imposed by force is not sustainable. If there is no support from the people, then the reform is not sustainable in any way.

BNP is not a revolutionary political party, it is a Liberal Democratic Party. We believe in the democratic system. Since 1947, that is, since the Pakistan period, democracy has never been practiced in this country, he said.

Mirza Fakhrul said, I can say with confidence that the Dr. Yunus led government will be successful. He is appreciated. You (advisers) will work with awareness. We are worried only then, it is annoying when the advisers in the government say anything. Do not say anything; do not do anything that can create confusion in the public mind.

He also said, the Local Government adviser said, the government's term is 4 years. It is not for him to say all this, they have formed a commission, that commission will make a proposal, the people will accept it and then it will be decided whether it will be 4 years or 5 years. Hasina also used to do such things; she used to say something 4, 5 years ago. Such words will never lead you to the right path. Mirza Fakhrul requested not to say such words.

He said, we want quick elections. No one can represent the people except elected representatives. If the elections are quick, the state reform work can be done quickly. If there is a gap, the friends of the dictatorship, who are trying to destroy everything of our revolution, to make the revolution fail. They get the opportunity and are getting it.

Foreign journalists, especially Indian journalists, called me and asked me what Dr. Yunus is failing. Mirza Fakhrul said, the people of the whole country are looking at him, they trust him. We see that he is running the country very well. Mirza Fakhrul advised the political parties to be aware of this.

Commenting that the market situation is not very good, he said, the prices of daily necessities are high. We all need to talk about this. All syndicates must be broken. We will all build resistance against the syndicates together. The Awami League government has divided the country once and for all.

At the time, he congratulated everyone on the founding anniversary of JSD and said that JSD was the party that first stood up to protest the fascism of the Awami League. That day, this party openly opposed the Awami League.

Two and a half months after being acquitted in a corruption case, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will go to London on November 8 for advanced treatment. Seven doctors from the medical board will accompany her.

Khaleda Zia's personal physician Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain confirmed this information to reporters on Tuesday (October 29).

The seven doctors on the medical board formed to treat Khaleda Zia are Dr. Zahid, Dr. Shahabuddin, Dr. Arefin, Dr. Nur Uddin, Dr. FM Siddique, Dr. Zafar, and Dr. Mamun.

Dr. Zahid Hossain said that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will first go to London to see her son Tarique Rahman. She will be taken there by a specialized air ambulance. Later, from London, she will be taken to a third country and admitted to a 'multi-disciplinary medical center'.

79-year-old Khaleda Zia has been suffering from various complex diseases including arthritis, heart disease, lung, liver, kidney, and diabetes for a long time. She is receiving regular treatment at the private Evercare Hospital in the capital.

On August 9 last year, Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. At that time, her family had requested the government to take her abroad for better treatment, but permission was not obtained. Later, three specialist doctors from the United States were brought in and the BNP Chairperson, who was suffering from liver cirrhosis, underwent surgery on her blood vessel on October 27. When her health stabilized somewhat, she returned home on January 11 this year after undergoing treatment for more than five months.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was sentenced in two corruption cases and imprisoned on February 8, 2018. She was imprisoned for more than two years. In response to the family's appeal, the government suspended Khaleda Zia's sentence on March 25, 2020 and released her conditionally. Since then, the government has been extending the release period for six months consecutively. However, after the change of power, the interim government exempted her from the corruption case.
