BNP thinks elections can be held within next six months: Major Hafiz
BNP Standing Committee member Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram said that BNP thinks elections can be held within the next six months after holding talks with political parties.
He said that the government will remain weak until an elected government comes to the country. They have to face various demands every day and they do not have the strength to solve this problem.
On Sunday (November 24), the Barishal Divisional Committee organized a memorial meeting and prayer mahfil at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) to mark the 35th death anniversary of 9th Sector Commander freedom fighter Major (retd) MA Jalil. He said these things while speaking as the chief guest there.
He said, we want to see a government that is accountable to the people immediately. The field of politics is open. If the student community wants to do politics, they should form a party and come to the elections. Now, they can form a party and come to the doorstep of the people in a free environment. We will accept whoever the people give the responsibility of running the state.
Major Hafiz further said, we are hearing about reforms, good, there is nothing wrong with reforms, but reforms are an ongoing process. As long as Bangladesh exists, reforms will continue, will the people sit still? BNP has been struggling for 17 years to establish the people's right to vote.
One of the main things of democracy is the right to vote for the people. We have had to fight for this long because of not being able to vote. We hope the current government will understand. Dr. Yunus is the pride of Bangladesh, the country's creative son, the whole world knows him. We hope they will hold elections at a reasonable time. But a reasonable time cannot be five years or four years. Many young people have given their lives to regain the people's right to vote in the country, how many people have disappeared, been martyred, so we do not want to see any kind of delay in establishing today's democracy.
He said, as a result of the revolution in July-August, the militant student society of Bangladesh and other opposition parties including BNP have proven that Bengalis are a brave nation. As a result of this struggle, the fascist government has been forced to flee the country. We hope that no one can defeat us again.
The revolution that has been achieved to completely eliminate inequality and turn the country into a truly democratic state should not be lost. He called on every citizen to play a role so that it is not stopped by the conspiracy of the neighboring state.
The discussion meeting, chaired by Barishal Divisional Association President Iqbal Hossain Forkan, was also attended by BNP National Executive Committee Vice President Advocate Zainul Abedin, BNP Chairperson Advisor Moazzem Hossain Alal, Advocate Mujibur Rahman Sarwar, Acting General Secretary of the organizing organization Shahabuddin Reza, Nurur Rahman Jahangir, Manjur Hossain Isa, Farid Uddin Bhuiyan, Kamal Uddin Ahmed, Abdul Hakim, Khaleda Khanam, Zahirul Alam Iqbal, etc.
