Younis Khan in a different role with the Afghan team

Pakistani legendary cricketer Younis Khan is now joining the Afghanistan team. He will work as a consultant for the Afghan national team in the ninth edition of the ICC Champions Trophy. The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) confirmed this information today.

Younis also worked as the batting coach of the Afghanistan team in 2022. The Champions Trophy, a one-day format that will start from February 19, will be jointly organized by Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.

ACB spokesperson Syed Nasim Sadat told the media, "The ACB has appointed former experienced Pakistani top-order player Younis Khan as a consultant for the 2025 Champions Trophy. He will join the team before the event starts in Pakistan."

Younis has scored 10,099 runs in 118 Test matches in his career, including a career-best 313 runs. He also became the world number one batsman in the ICC rankings. Younis also led Pakistan to its first T20 World Cup victory in 2009.

After retiring from playing, Younis focused on his coaching career. He briefly served as the batting coach of the Pakistan team. He worked with Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Younis Khan was also the head coach of the Bengal Tigers in the recently concluded Abu Dhabi T10 League.
