A smuggler was arrested with 265 sacks of Indian sugar from 2 boats loaded with sugar in a police operation at Gowainghat in Sylhet.
On Friday (July 05) at around 8:30 PM, sugar was recovered and one person was arrested from the North Pratappur area under Jaflong Union.
The arrested Abul Hayat (30) is the son of Abdul Waheed of Luni Haor village of West Jaflong Union.
According to Gowainghat police on Friday night, under the direction of the officer-in-charge of the police station, a raiding team conducted an operation in North Pratappur village of West Jaflong Union No. 2 of the upazila, recovered 265 sacks of Indian sugar along with 2 boats left by the fugitive accused and arrested Abul Hayat. The value of recovered Indian sugar is Tk.13 lakh 25 thousand.
Meanwhile, in this incident, SI Jahangir Alam of Gowainghat police station made the arrested Abul Hayat the main accused and named 5 people and filed a case against 5/6 unknown people at Gowainghat police station.
The matter was confirmed by the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gowainghat Police Station Rafiqul Islam PPM.
