In Sylhet, Sultan's Dine, a delicious food company, has come under fire from the people of the area for its smelly mutton. Last Tuesday (October 1) in the afternoon, some local youths gathered and conducted an operation due to the strong stench spreading from the meat store in Dandiyapara of Sylhet city.
When the journalists came to the scene after receiving the news of this incident, Sultan's Dine authorities started trying to manage the journalists so that the news would not be published about the matter.
After that, when the news was published in some other media including Barta24.com, the Chief Health Officer of Sylhet City Corporation came into view. On his instructions, a team of Sylhet District Sanitary Inspector and Food Safety Officer visited Sultan Dine on Thursday (October 3).
In the meantime, a 57-second video of another person including the district sanitary officer without going to the main scene or any kind of official letter or instructions from the Health Department of SCC was spread on Facebook. There have been mixed reactions among people on this issue. Senior officials of the concerned department are angry about such videos without going to the spot.
According to the Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) sources, 2 food safety officers and 2 sanitary inspectors from the Health Department attached to the SCC visited on Thursday (October 3). They cleared Sultan's Dine's meat store in Zindabazar, Sylhet city, by visiting the restaurant instead of going to Dariyapara Imon Housing. Many officials believe that it has been done illegally.
The officials who visited Sultan's Dine are - Sanitary Inspectors Benu Bhushan Das and Abdul Mumit attached to Sylhet City Corporation, Food Safety Officers Saiful Islam and Monita Rani.
They visited Sultan's Dine and spoke on behalf of the establishment, but the officials did not visit Dariya Para Imon Housing, the place of origin of the incident. Additionally, Sanitary Inspector Benu Bhushan Pal and Food Safety Officer Saiful Islam blamed the media for spreading confusion against Sultan's Dine. They appreciated the quality and cleanliness of Sultan's Dine. Officials of Sultan's Dine spread their statement on social media.
The matter was discussed with Chief Health Officer of Sylhet City Corporation Dr. Zahidul Islam.
He said two sanitary inspectors and two food safety inspectors went together to inspect Sultan's Dine. They were sent to inquire about the establishment and to find out where the meat came from. But they were not sent to go and sign the okay certificate. They do not have the right to speak. They could only observe and report. I cannot take responsibility for their statement. Moreover, action will be taken after investigating whether the Sultan's Dine has taken to sing the goods on their behalf and whether they have done such activities in exchange for any financial benefits.
He said that the officials of Sultan's Dine have been asked to appear at the City Corporation with all the documents on Sunday (October 6).
In this regard, the sanitary inspector Benu Bhushan Pal said, after seeing the media report, I went to that institution with the permission of the chief health officer. We did not address any media there. But let me highlight the pros and cons of Sultan's Dine. They recorded the entire speech and released the good news on social media. However, the official admitted that his statement was ignorant.
He said that basically they did not go to the place where the meat was stored or from where the meat was served to Sultan's Dine and they did not know about the place. However, they did not give any report on this despite visiting Sultan's Dine.
Safe food officer Saiful Islam told the media that four of us visited Sultan's Diner on the instructions of the Chief Health Officer. As he said, I went to the inspection and found it clean. During the inspection they denied the matter of rotten meat. There the authorities spoke to them, which they unknowingly recorded and spread on social media. We will take legal action against them.
It should be noted that last Tuesday evening, foul smell was emanating from the tin shed house named Imon Housing in Dariapara of the city. Some local youth raided after smelling bad smell from the museum.
According to local sources, the stench was coming from a house in the Dandiapara area of Sylhet city for several days. The local residents were very angry. Some local youths went there and found that the house was stocked with mutton. Later they said it was the flesh of Sultan's Dine. At that time, when they complained of rotten meat, the officials there were fired upon.
They said, these are meat slaughtered in Dhaka. After slaughtering there, it was brought to Sylhet. At that time, when the youths resorted to local mentors, they informed the manager of Sultan's Dine, who came to a local man's house and tried to resolve the matter.
Syed Sarfaraz Hossain, Safe Food Officer of Sylhet said, "They can keep meat if the temperature is between minus 12-18". It depends on whether they are doing temperature control there or not. Are you using a freezer van while bringing it from Dhaka or not? How is the freezing system in storage? If the cold chain is maintained, then there should not be such a stench. It stinks when it rots.'
The official said, "The matter of Sultan's Dine has been noticed, now I am in Dhaka. Back to Sylhet we will check things. If the truth is found, legal action will be taken.
When asked to know, Mohammad Sumon, an employee of Ma-Baba Doa, a meat supplier, said, "We have a shop in Dhaka's Kaptan Bazaar. The Khasis were slaughtered there. Later, the meat was packed in sacks and brought to Sylhet's Kadmatali by bus. From there some of us brought the sacks to this house in Dariapara. Later we cut the meat here and supply it to Sultan's Dine.'
